I hate to be technical but there were no Christians in the Old Testament.
The Old Testament is the Jewish bible. The New Testament is about Christianity.
To say the old Testament is part of the Christian religion is like saying the Jewish religion is part of Islam. Aftert all both Christianity and Islam started with Judism!

Haven't been asked this before!
I think it's interesting that people focus SO MUCH on the "slaughter" of the OT, yet completely ignore the rest of it. Very little of it is mindless killing, as you seem to think.
The OT also contains Genesis, the creation account, the Song of Solomon, a beautiful piece of poetry about love, Psalms, a book of songs, Proverbs, a book of the most useful advice I have ever found, Daniel, which predicts the birth of Christ, the rise of world powers and correlates to many of the visions in Revelation, as well as the book of Ruth, who was an incredible prophetess and ancestor of Christ, and 1,2 Kings and 1,2 Samuel, which detail the lives of David and his lineage in great detail.
The Bible is incredibly harmonious if you take the time to read the whole work in it's entirety, instead of concentrating on a few chapters that are considered historical records by many.
How is Israel's recounting of it's past any different than that of Egypt? Assyria? Rome? Greece? Even the USA? The OT provides much historical information on the development and history of Jewish society. Every other empire on Earth has it's history- why can't they?

tina, that's real. there is various violence interior the previous testomony, God ordained. Why did God tell them to try this. the respond is in simple terms, He reported to do it for in spite of motives He observed in nice condition. Like Sodom being obliterated. What replaced into that all and sundry approximately? in factor of fact that i'm uncertain, yet i think of that I easily have a exceptionally stable theory. It replaced into no longer a place, alongside with Sodom, that God needed as a means on the international, different than that's historic magnitude as a cursed place. in spite of the Sodomites could do interior the destiny, it does no longer have been conducive to God's plan. via fact that Christians know that the Earth is the Lord's and each little thing in it, we comprehend that all of it belongs to Him besides. So all of us comprehend that he's the owner of the Universe, and He would not want the approval of all and sundry, exceptionally KingReef777. i wish that helped answer your question.

Dear Ludd:
What makes you think God's dealings with sin in a violent manner is limited to the Old Testament? Jesus twice cleansed the temple of hypocrites with a whip--and His followers did not then forsake Him--later gave their lives for their faith. Ananias and Sapphira were killed in church service for lying about their offering--and the church grew. Herod Agrippa was consumed on the spot with worms--people knew it was a judgment from God for him killing James. And the Herod that beheaded John--Jesus answered him nothing when he asked Jesus to work a miracle for him.
So you see, Ludd, there is a payday for sinners. In the O.T. God delayed judgments against Palestine--he told Abraham it would be four centuries before their iniquity was bad enough to warrant extinction.
So, my friend, watch out. That same God is long-suffering to sinners, but the repentant and unrepentant will certainly meet their rewards as they deserve.
This is discussed in an On-line publication that shows you how to break the hidden code--reserved for the "end of the days." Its important message bears your scrutiny at www.revelado.org/revealed.htm

It does relate. There are a lot of good stories in there. I am glad that God smote those people, because, well, could you imagine how the world would be today if all of those evil people procreated and populated the earth? The whole point of the story is that Some obeyed God, some did not. When they didn't obey, they had a lot of problems come their way, when they did trust and obey, things turned out for the best.

Because there were NO Christians in the OT. Christians came after the NT when Jesus died and rose from the dead. Thats when people knew He was really God and thats when people had faith in Jesus and became Christians.
DUH!

Ok, if a guy came bursting into your home and said he had a burning desire to stab your baby to death. If you had a gun, would you shoot him to prevent the death of your baby?
God knows the hearts and souls of men. Any "slaughter of the Old Testament" that was initiated by God was "guess what" . . . authorized by the only one in heaven or on earth worthy to do so.
Fortunately, there is no command to Christians to "slaughter".
So, yes, we get a free pass on that one.
And please, don't be so ill-informed to think the crusades were initiated by Christians. They may have referred to themselves as such, but they don't fit the definition.
Why don't you spend less time here where you really don't know much, and go over to the mythology and folklore section where your imaginative meanderings might be appreciated.

Christians think they can sidestep because of the new covenant between "Jesus" and "God", the problem is that this is merely a re-invention of the control mechanism of Christianity. Christianity just started ruling by a different kind of fear, the fear of not getting into heaven or going to hell as opposed to the fear of being smote by a pretty angry imaginary Friend. In reality god went on being a vengeful tyrant for a couple of thousand years- it's that part that I don't understand them sidestepping.
