Any kid of exercise that you enjoy. Walking is great. Also, take slow, deep breaths. In the long run you need to see how you an change what's causing you stress.

Try joining a gym or going for walks.
Or find something you find relaxing. Some people knit, others listen to some music while laying on the couch or in bed.
The sound of water is soothing, usually every mall has at least one store that sells those small water features that look like mini water falls.
Or just take a long hot bath maybe with some scented candles and some soft music.

Quietness. Try sitting in a chair without the television or radio on. Relax in God. Do this every evening for at least an hour.
I think stress is caused by too much outer noise, demands, other's problems, neglecting duties, so that is why I say to sit in quietness and stillness and simply rest.
Make sure you take care of business such as paying bills on time, maintaining car, in other words, don't allow stressful things into your comfort zone. And let that comfort zone be quietness. Close your eyes and rest in quietness.
I do it and it works for me.

exercise is great. I find that a high-energy workout, like running, is good, but yoga is my favorite. The deep breathing and calming words of the instructor help a ton.
Writing it down is also helpful. Even if you delete the file on your computer or burn the paper you wrote on, just getting the thoughts out is a great way to get rid of some of the stress. It sounds silly, but it really helps.

Exercise, punch something, do something that'll make you release anger. Throw a ton of paint on a canvas. Makes for some pretty good artwork and a little extra money. I write very hateful articles about a particular person.

punch something. maybe that's just me but i bought a punching bag and i hit it until im too tired to hit it anymore or my stress is gone. after that i meditate. it doesnt take long to kill the stress with that formula: it only takes about 10 minutes (including the meditation). but i only do that when im very stressed. usually i play guitar when im moderatly stressed
