Before you can do anything you need the litter registration from the puppy owner. You can't register the dog with out that. With this paper all you need to do is sign your name and the puppy name, and pay up.... there you are done. What I am getting from you here is that you didn't get the litter papers. I tell everyone every day do not buy a puppy with out those litter papers. If the breeder didn't give you the litter papers you need to go back to the breeder and get them. She will help you fill out the papers. I really hope you got those litter papers with that you have nothing.

Can you tell us a little more.. Did you just buy it? Is it a puppy or a full grown dog.. If its a puppy and the breeders have papers papers fpr the parents of the puppies they have to register their litters but its your responsibility to fill out the papers the breeder gives you.(send to AKC) With that said,If its an adult pure bred and the owner has papers for the dog it can be transferred in your name.. you have to work with the previous owner on that, but if the Dog was never AKC registered wether it is pure bred or not, your crap out of luck hun... it has to have proof of a blood line.. hence-AKC standard..

First off the whole litter has to be registered, then each individual dog can be registered ,only if the breeder ok's & signs the papers. Some won't do it unless the pup is show quality.

The paperwork, which documents his line for at least four generations back, has to come from the owners of his parents and they have to be registered in order for your dog to be registered.
Contact the parent's owners although they should have given you all t he paperwork when you adopted her.
