I just had my molar pulled in the very back, on the left side of my mouth. Right now there is just a huge hole there, and I don't dare to eat or drink anything besides water and ice cream. When should the hole close up and allow me to start chewing on that side again?

it will get better each day, in about a week you won't notice it much anymore. if it gets more painful, call your dentist or oral surgeon because you can get a condition called dry socket.
I've always been able to chew on the side of an extracted tooth at about 3-4 days after.

You probably can start eating back there- in about a week. And it should be pretty much completely healed- in two. Til then, try to chew slowly & carefully on that side...
