So, there are the 6 digits of the zip code that one has. But then there are the 4 extra ones. I normally put them on, but I was just wondering if one always has to do that, if you're talking about domestic mail. It's a bit annoying to have to keep on looking zip codes up.

You don't have to, but it helps the post office sort it our according to carrier routes faster.

You don't have to. All the Post Office needs is the first set. The second set identifies a specific location within the zip code, so it helps it get there faster, but it is not necessary.

there are only5 regular digits in a zip code,not 6 the other 4 are for you personally at your address. you are supposed to be able to only have to put your zip+4 & still get mail delivered &returned.

thats the zip+4 code... use it if u want... it may make delivery a bit faster (not likely). its not required

its not required to mail something.....but it may help if u are mailing billing payments
