It is my personal believe that instead of an eye for an eye, it's a eye for a life. If you hurt me I'll hurt you ten times worse so you'll never **** with me again.

No I would never live by this statement.
Funny people think that No one would truly do unto others as they would have done onto them or turn the other cheek or seriously remain peaceful if they were attacked personally.
Martin Luther King Jr was challenged like this all the time. Once he was in a hotel in Atlanta I believe and this man was yelling at him, calling his family names, spitting at him and King refused to respond, instead remaining peaceful and not attacking back.
The man kicked King dead in the balls and King fell to the ground and stood back up and continued to stand not attacking or retaliating until the man eventually tired of and left.
That is the example I chose to follow not the one in the statement. I might run I might try to disarm them, but do onto them and take them out before they do me NEVER.

Well, those are two different questions. I do not live by that statement nor would I want to because of the suffering it brings. I would, however, defend my life if someone were trying to harm me/murder me. I don't think I'm doing unto them what they would do unto me. If I could disable them without killing them that would be the best way. Interesting question.

I agree with some of the other people who answered your question. This is like two questions.
Personally I try always to treat people good, even if they are unkind. There comes a time you just have look over others stupidity or lack of manners.
Now if someone was trying to kill me or do bodily harm, then that becomes a whole different story.
I would knock their lights out so fast it would make their head spin !!

It is do unto others as they do unto you. It goes back to the whole eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth thing. Now Jesus said to turn the other cheek. That got him in trouble. Here is a little known story that is misrepresented in most of the Bibles in print today. I'm paraphrasing, but you will recognize the parable.
Jesus came into a crowd that was angry at a woman. "Adulterer!" they called her. "Stone her!" they cried out. Jesus stood before the crowd and said, "Let he amongst us who is without sin cast the first stone." The crowd went silent. Suddenly, from the back a stone was hurled and hit the woman squarely in the head. A flurry of stones followed and the woman fell dead in the street. Jesus, obviously angered, said, "Who threw that? Show yourself!" From the back of the crowd a small frail woman edged her way forward and looked upon Jesus. "Twas I." was all she said. Red faced and shaken, Jesus bellowed, "Mom, you're really starting to tick me off!!!!"

"An it harm none" are the words I try to live by, but if someone was trying to harm me or my kids then there are no limits in my mind. Let someone come in my home and try to rape or kidnapp one of my children. They better have started preparing for the after life.

A person who is defending his own life against a violent person is not doing unto others before they do it to him/her. The violent person wants to wrongly injure or murder others. The person who is defending his life is not trying to wrongly injure or murder the other person- he is simply defending his life.
The right attitude to have when defending your life is that you do not want to wrongly injure or murder the violent person; you just want to preserve your life. You would rather the violent person stop and leave you alone.
It is not wise to "do unto others before they do unto you", because it just makes people angry when you treat them the bad way they have treated you. It keeps the cycle of violence going.

the killing example is wrong...
you AREN'T supposed to do what others do to you
so you aren't sposed to try to kill people who try to kill you
you ARE sposed to want others to do what you do
so you dont kill them, you expect them not to kill you.
there's a BIG difference...and I do think that statement has a lot of value. It's often hard to follow through though, but i try.

Sounds pretty pessimistic. Unless you know the future, you cannot do before they do it to you. In most cases its a self fulfilling prophecy. Example (you punch someone in the face because you thought they were going to punch you. In my punching them you have caused them to want to punch you in the face)
