Because if you are on a e.g. 400+mile road trip with 2 young kids you need an overnight break. And because the hotel is attached to a service station they are v convienent and of late clean, quiet and cheap.

Erm if you were knackered as hell, and didn't wanna sleep in your car? you'd get some gypsies coming along and attacking the car probably if you sleep on the roadside, not to mention the cold....

Because they are usually inexpensive and you choose one close to your early morning business meeting rather than starting your journey in the middle of the night and turning up half asleep and wasted.

you wouldnt...unless your car broke down and your tired. then thats the place to be. furthermore i hope they have a bar there because with your car in the shop and your bed in the same building, you dont need to be sober to drive anywhere.
