I had a horse Elmo. And that was way before Elmo the monster. Look at it this way....Alf was a alien. He was on TV for quite a while but you still hear of people called Alf. I guess you need to make your own mind up. I have another horse Oscar and there are lots of Oscars out there and no one thinks of Oscar the Grouch!!!!

I would not name a boy Elmo. He will be teased mercilessly in school because he will be compared to Elmo on Sesame Street. Not a good idea to name a child after a cartoon or puppet. It might be cute when they are little, but not in school.

My husband and I have gone back and forth over using this name. It's a family name for us, but we know any boy we had would be teased mercilessly over the name. We've opted to use it as a middle name.

If your child is a little red furry monster with a serious speech impediment, he'll be fine. Otherwise, expect he'll be teased.
