As a Catholic, I'm very fond of my Wiccan and Pagan brothers and sisters.
We've got lot in common. Both highly misunderstood.
Protestants are always calling Catholics satanists and witches. Much like they call you. Ehem. Well. except that you ARE witches... [chuckles]
Very few people realize that the burning times were not about pagans. If you compare maps and dates of the burning times to maps and dates of Protestant reform, you'll see they match up.
Good old Martin Luther did not like all the magic and mysticism of the church. So he condemned us as witches and heretics. Burned many at the stake. Beheaded others. Also any Jews who wouldn't convert.
But it was during the time of Queen Elizabeth I that priest's robes were labeled "garments of conjuring" - attending mass would result in your home being taken away. To say or attend mass was an act of treason.
During the time of Elizabeth's reign a great many Catholics were burned. Dragged through London naked. Hung until unconscious. Taken down, tied to a table. Drawn and quartered. Then boiled. Then put up around town as an example.
You might want to read Edmund Campion by Evelyn Waugh. It's deeply moving.
Beginning with the time of Martin Luther, 600 years of Catholic persecution.
You burn candles and cast spells.
We burn candles and say novenas.
You celebrate equinoxes and solstices. We used to celebrate Ember Days. We still should. We really need to. Quarterly celebrations of the bounty God gave us.
Many wiccans I meet today are simply echos of Anchoresses and Anchorites. Solitary devout Catholics, so steeped in prayer their very words were - MAGIC.
Investigate women like Hildegard Von Bingen. Julian of Norwich and Bridgit of Sweden. You'll see what I mean. They were the "wise women." In fact, if you can dig up an out of print book called "Ancrene Wisse" you'll see that even your term "Blessed Be" comes from we Catholics. It's a prayer called the Divine Praises.
I've posted some links for information. The last link is difficult to read. Heart wrenching.
When I read about how others suffered to preserve MY faith, how can I not have compassion and love for those of other faiths who are misunderstood?

When I was once a Christian, I beleived that any perception that was once opposite to the bible was once incorrect and might lead a man or woman to hell. I did have a few revel in within the occult earlier than fitting a Christian, and didn't approve of a few preachers preaching sermons approximately how pagans and Wiccans worship the satan and all of the incorrect information a few have. Today I come across Christians who admire my direction as a pagan, and others who take a look at to transform me and say I am going to hell due to the fact I have rejected Christ. Most church buildings feel that Christ is the best way, the Truth and the Light and all different approaches are of the satan. That would possibly sound imply to any person who has by no means been a Christian, however is consistent with what the bible says. According to the bible which Christians learn and feel, pagans are hell sure and evil, I of path don't feel that as a pagan myself, however as a former Christian I do understand what scripture says. I had a very close friend who was Wiccan and I was into it for a while, too. But then she turned on me and I stopped believing in everything, not just Wicca. I now go to a Christian church every Sunday but I don't love it like I loved Wicca, but there are also too many painful memories involved. I think it's a beautiful religion and I think it's awesome that you believe in what you want to!

Your just people in my eyes. Yes, while I do believe that your beliefs are wrong, and are unBiblical yadda yadda, so on and so forth... I cant judge you or anything like that.
I have a couple of friends that are wiccans, and even though they know I disagree totally with their beliefs and practices, we are still friends and get along. As a Christian, the Bible commands me to love people, and love does not mean only to love people that share your beliefs.

A true christian would "do onto others..." Mat 7:12
However, these types tend to be few and far beween.
Most "warriors" are just happy they have a new incarnation of demon-worshippers to harrass. Or "save". Burning times are over, no matter what. Most christians would just be tolerant of diversity.
Blessed be

Depends on how you are as a person. I mean you could steal 20 bucks from my purse, but then so could my Lutheran friend.
I don;t believe in what you believe in as it is incompatible with my beliefs. But it is not my place to judge your beliefs or try to change them. My job as a good Christian and friend is to help you be the best person you can be and if Wicca does that for you, then it ROCKS!
But it really depends on how you act and treat me as to my thoughts of you.

what I understand about Wicca and Paganism (which is only slightly more than you get from the Wicca for Dummies book) it just seems to be a little too much mysticism and . . . . fluff (sorry, not trying to be mean or mocking I just can't think of a better word right now) for this hard-nosed skeptic.
But what you believe is your business, not any of mine

First and foremost, I think you (Wiccans) are very creative and spiritual. You are searching for a realm that is beyond what you can see with your eyes and you are right - there is more to this world than what the eye can see. You connect with Wicca because it allows you to express your spirituality in a personal and creative way.
However, I think you are lacking the full truth and you do not yet have the kind of relationship with God that it is possible for you to have. Only through Jesus can you truly connect with the Divine. I think some of your rituals and practices do open you up to occult activity and do put you at risk of interacting with and being controlled by demons (remember Satan appears to be an angel of light).
So I guess on some level I think you are very cool, and on another level, my heart aches for Pagans/Wiccans because they don't know what they're missing!

well i am the type of person that does not judge people on what they are intrested in or before i have met them. I myself am not into stuff like that for the simple fact it kind of creeps me out but i am a christian so i'm not suppose to dabble it that kind of stuff anyway. But for some reason I love supernatural movie and shows in a way it sort of intreges me.

I mean you see on here all the time
A mere disguise for satanic activity
Withcraft is strictly forbidden in the Bible. It is the way to eternal death and punishment.
Your motives are good but you are misled.
The Bible warns against involvement in witchcraft because of its satanic influence. The powers which witches use or attempt to use are from Satan.
The practice of witchcraft is a sin.
Samuel 15:23 - For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft... Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king
2 Chronicles 33:6 - also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
I mean you ask a good question about candles and the answers are instant You damn devil worshipper, burn in hell? and yet you wonder what they think of ya. I think the answers above demonstrate exactly what they think of you. Or even better--the ones that put a nice lil answer of You poor thing, I'll pray for your soul to be saved.
The whole "do not suffere a witch to live" sort of thing in the Bible does put a bit of taint on their view.
Now do I think the average person in the world spends their day talking about how if they could burn a witch a day, they'd be doing their part for christianity? Of course not. Most aren't fanatical enough but those in the R&S board are rather passionate about their religion. And unfortunately that religion is very specific about Don't believe in God, go live in eternal fire. Most in real life probably are rather interested or have no idea a difference b/t witchcraft like I see in the movies and Wiccan the religion. In which case, I appauld you for having diverse friends and for doing your part to educate them.
I'm also glad that your friends are openminded and accepting. My best friend and roommate in college was wiccan and we were stalked and grabbed, tomented daily by the Campus Crusade for Christ.
But I wouldn't hope to convince anyone to stop hating Wiccans on this forum. After all, if you weigh more than a duck we should BURN YOU!
