Pork isn't unhealthy. You just don't see a lot of pork pet products as there isn't a high demand

Raw meat feeders are told not to use pork. I think currently our pork is not likely to be carrying trichinosis and the raw feeders don't use it because it had too much fat. There is a canned cat food veterinarians sell called a/d when cats are sick - it is high in calories and the fat is good to beef up an ailing cat.
Ham and other delicatessen meats (even chicken and turkey) are pumped up with saline solution as a preservative and should not be fed to cats (except for very occasional treats).
Cooked chicken or turkey meat without ANY bones are OK treats for your cat - that is meat you prepare at home.

Poorly cooked pork is bad for anyone.
Cats included. There is a lot of pork
by products in cat food and treats.
Our cats refuse table scraps. They only
like Friskies.....unless someone is
willing to feed them chicken by hand.

I've heard that pork is higher in fat so you wouldn't want it to be a diet staple. But as an occasional meal it's fine.
I'm referring to raw pork, not cooked. I've been researching raw meat diets and from what I've read, just about any kind of meat can be fed. My local pet store (an indie not one of the chains) even has kangaroo meat! People have even been known to feed goat meat.

My cats won't eat pork, although they love ham. They only get bits though because of the salt.
I saw one article some time ago that pork can be highly allergenic for cats. We actually found fish to be more so, so I don't know.

Oh yes!!! Most definately.
They can't digest the pork properly and it can give them tapeworm if not cooked properly. It also takes a very long time to digest and as cats need to eat little and often, it is generally best not to feed them pork.

I feed my cat leftovers - including ham. He always eats what I put out for him. But then again he eats possums, birds, mice, and whatever else he finds roaming around our yard.
