Depression is equally hard on everyone, It really depends on the situation to gage the severity.

I'm a woman with depression and anxiety being treated, and I think it's harder on a man first to admit it because he is the man of the family and doesn't want to seem like he has failed in any way, women can be weak and depend our husband without a second thought, that isn't as easy for men we have to pull it out of them.

I think it depends on the individual and their coping skills. Everyone is made different and therefor they handle situations differently.
