I was thinking. He is co-equal to god. He comes down to earth for about 30 years... suffers intensely for a couple of days. Then is right back to being a divine being that will NEVER suffer any harm for ETERNITY. Is that really such a sacrifice? For either him or god?

I mean how many people here would honestly say no thank you to allowing their DIVINE son to go down for 30 years out of oh... infinity, to teach a few lessons?

And how many people would jump at the opportunity to be the son of god if it meant you had to suffer for 3 days and then live for ETERNITY in heaven? Really, where's the sacrifice?

I'll tell you waht, I'll take my hand punctured by nails for a day if it means ETERNITY free of suffering. He knew who he was, knew where he was going. Come on.
Watched his son die? He CAN'T, he's divine!

He did NOT suffer for 30 years. He lived a very simple difficult life. But he KNEW he was god. He knew that after all the temporary suffereing, he would never suffer again. KNEW it.

He did not "give up his life". He can't really die. He was in heaven (most would say), came down to an earthly existence with hunger, cold, jealousy, persecution, whatever. Also camaraderie, adulation (after healing), and wine.
Then 2 or 3 days of intense suffering. Then back to HEAVEN! Is it a sacrifice to go BACK to heaven?

Yes. . the greater sacrifice would be to actually pay the same payment that we must pay.

Eternity in hell.

If he is a replacement. . .be an ACTUAL replacement

Exactly how much suffering was involved in Christ's sacrifice for us is not something we need to focus on. The fact is He did it for all of us out of unconditional love. If He had not done it, we would be paying the price ourselves. And that's forever. Jesus knew that He had a wonderful purpose and yes, anyone with a kind heart would have wanted to save people from their sins as He did. But no ordinary person could have done that. Jesus became our bridge to connect us with God. I know this is a bit confusing, but that's just because our brains can't comprehend anything outside of our own little world. I am so confident in Jesus being for real because I was saved two and a half years ago when I turned to Him for forgiveness. I realized that the way I was living my life was pointless and I wanted Him to take it from me. The change in my heart has been AMAZING and I will never feel hopeless again! Hope this helps you... He is for real!!

You are missing the point. No one could do it but Jesus. Not one of us is sinless. Not one of us could have taken the sins, diseases, afflictions, pains, burns all upon ourselves.

Only God can kill God and only God could go to the cross to win eternal life back from Satan because Adam & Eve lost it to Satan. Until Jesus went to that cross we were dead in sin. God told Adam if you eat of that tree you will die.

I haven't even mentioned the 39 stripes that tore all the skin off of his back. The crown of thorns that blinded his eyes with blood. They beat Him beyond recognition and then they nailed Him to the cross. A Roman Centurian soldier, who had seen many men die in battle and by crucifixion said, "Surely this was the Son of God." Even that soldier knew that no mere man could handle this torment and live as long as Jesus lived before saying "It is Finished" on the cross.
He heard Jesus say, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." Jesus was put to the test of death more than any man could stand and He still went into hell and brought back the keys of hell and hades. Triumphed over Satan victoriously and lead the captives free. Many Old Testament saints were seen walking in Jerusalem.

No, my friend, you could not handle this sacrifice!!!

The sacrifice and suffering endured by Christ was not for himself, nor for God. It was for us. Each and every person that has lived, that currently lived, and that will ever live upon this earth. That sacrifice included taking upon himself the pain, the punishment, the anguish resulting from the sins of every person, both past, present and future.
The magnitude of that pain and anguish, that infinite atonement, is totally incomprehensible to mortal minds. It was so intense that it caused an omnipotent being to bleed from every pore. It was the greatest sacrifice that the world will ever know.

most people would rather die than speak in front of a crowd

let alone be hated, feel the pain and bare sins (all the rapings all the murders and all other sins) of all mankind (that ever will live)
to feel that kind of burden
to be hated
beaten with a shard an hook covered whip (cat of nine tails)
called a lier
spat on
rejected
to have nails hammered through His wrists
to hang on a cross not even being able to breather
with no one stopping it

I can't imagine it honestly

In those years he was teaching people of the word. He had followers who he knew would pass down his teachings. He suffered for our sins. He suffered so every single one of us could be delivered from this earth. I mean, Honestly.. Would you let yourself be brutally abused so that thousands of people could have a better life with God. I mean, I think it's a really big sacrafice. But, Then again I'm a believer of God so our views may be different.

Christ suffered for over 30 years. He struggled to fight off Satan, and I am sure he was persecuted before he started his ministry. No matter how long it was. You are right. It was a small price to pay considering how much he was to gain. Isn't God great how he rewards us for doing good? Yet it is still very hard when we have to face the day to day challenges. We can all receive great rewards if we live right in this life. Why don't we just bear through the hard times now, so we can be happy for eternity?

Not to mention that the pain he went through was unimaginable to us. He suffered for our sins, so we didn't have to. This means that we will never experience such suffering in this life.

Tell you what, you go through the ordeal He did for those 3 days and let me know if it was a small sacrifice for you. And, think of this, for the 30 years He was here he had to deal with all the same problems and issues as everyone else knowing exactly what He stepped away from.

Jesus Christ's sacrifice was enough to save all of us from hell, not just those who accept His offer. It was enough to give us all everlasting life, forever with God in joy, peace, and love. The price for doing that is tremendous, and frankly no one can afford it. God took all of sin, and all that punishment for those sins, each of which gets an eternity of punishment, upon Himself and He thrust it all away from us (at least those who accept this gift). It was the greatest sacrifice ever made.

If Jesus had never came down to save the world, He would still rule for eternity in heaven. His sacrifice was of no benefit to Him, other than that He saved people that He loves. We do not deserve Christ to die for us, He did that of His own accord. Few people would die for those who deserve it, let alone those that don't!

Think about the sacrifice in personal terms. If some yahoo you've never met but heard about, committed murder and was sentenced to life in prison. Would you give up thirty days of your life and serve 1 month of his prison term? Even after you heard the guy knew who you were and hated your guts and if he hadn't been caught you were going to be his next victim. Would you then consider even serving one week in prison for him, or as you put it would you give up 3 days of your life for this individual.
