Its lore that Roy Jones visited McClellan (after the Nigel Benn incident) and told him "If you hadnt been hurt, I could have never been middleweight champion". So now, those who know both..who would win?

Kieran ~
Gerald is from my home state and I have always been a fan. My wife and I send money to help with his continued medical cost. I new him briefly in the amateurs. He's a class act and a good man.

I think given the over all consensus now that Roy really never had a chin he just had remarkable ability to hit and not be hit. In my opinion, Gerald would stop Roy in the 6th round very similar to the way Glen Johnson stopped him. Straight punch right down the middle.

There wasn't a Middleweight out there that wasn't aware of Gerald's punching power and with the power he had great ring generalship and was able to control a fighters mobility. Nigel Benn got caught with shots that hurt him and has said "You think that Gerald hit hard until you actually got hit by him, then you know he hits extremely hard." unfortunately for Gerald we all know the end result for that fight.

Thanks for the question Kieran.

Santana sounds like a friend of the blogbaba's who broke in with Gerald and Mike prior to them both becoming champions. If your the third of the trio and remember the playful discussion you and Mike had on Manny's front yard, Email me. Couldn't agree more with your assement, there is nothing more the blogbaba can add, Gerald was pure class and had the Benn tradgey not occured was quite possibly on his way to boxing immortality as one of the all time greats.

I SAID LET ME CHECK BEFORE I ANSWER BECAUSE SANTANA IS THERE.

MC CLELLAN WAS AN AWFULLY TERRIFIC PUNCHER, YEA RIGHT AGAINST NOBODIES OTHER THAN MUGABI AND J. JACKSON.
HIS GREATNESS IS WITH HELD DUE TO LACK OF QUALITY OPPOSITION.

THE ONLY CHINK (ALBEIT AN IMPORTANT ONE) ON JONES IS HIS CHIN. ROY DID HAVE GOOD POWER IN HIS FAST HANDS AS COMBO PUNCHER.

IN THIS BOUT, ROY WINS BY A LATE RD KO AND AN UNANIMOUS 15 RD DECISION.

P. S. U MISSED IT ON THIS ONE, SANTANA.

Jones would have outboxed him the way he did Hopkins and Toney and everyone else if they were both in their prime. Jones didn't say that mess either, if he did he was just humoring him.
