Well.... Me and my two friends were bullhead fishing from shore one night in a creek that comes from lake champlain. We noticed that there were northern pike spawning all around us, next to a small manmade dam. My friend jeremiah said "Man it would be cool to catch one of those." So we continued to bullhead fish and i watched the pike for about a hour and noticed that every 5-10 minutes one would swim along this rock right next to the dam. the rock was about 6 inches under the water. So i got this idea that i would wait next to this rock and catch one with my hands. So Jeremiah got his spotlight out of his backpack and used it to give me some light. well after missing a few small ones, all of a sudden i looked at the rock and couldnt make it out at all. There was a giant pike head blocking my view. I moved my hand into the water very slowly and BANG!!! I grabbed him behind the gills and lifted him out of the water. i'm 220 Lbs and he made me shake like a wet noodle because he was flopping around so hard. He was 47" long and weighed about 20-30 lbs. My hand still has scars where his gill plates cut me all up. Crazy huh?

When we went deep sea fishing is south Carolina on a 60 person charter boat we caught a good amount of fish but it was mostly red snapper. In the middle of the day i had my fifth one on the line and while I was reeling it in I felt an unusual, really big tug and I thought I lost the fish. So I real in my line and I find out that some thing took a bite of the snapper because I only had it's head. It was either a shark or barracuda. Then I put my line in again and the line got tangled in the reel. So one of the guys working on the boat was helping me fix and while we are doing this my line is in the water. Then while fixing it There is a huge tug and there is something on the line. So we fix the line and I reel it in. It was a 2 ft black tip shark. So the guy who was working on the boat who helped me with the reel was taking the shark off the hook and it was squirming a lot and one of its fins cut the guy right when he pulled out the hook and it wouldn't stop squirming so the guy could ask me if I wanted to keep it. So to stop the squirming he took it by the tail and hit it's head on the deck 3 times so he could ask me. It looked like it was in shock because it was jerking strangely. But the guy asked me if I wanted it and I said no so he threw it back in the water and it swam away like it was fine.

Back when my wife and I were dating we would go to this little fishing pond and catch tons of small bass with little spinner baits. She was just learning to fish so she had lots of bites…but didn’t bring in many fish. Because of this she wouldn’t say she had caught one until she almost had reeled it in.

This one night we were fishing as we normally did and I look over and see her really struggling with a fish. Then she starts saying she has a big one and none of the other fish have fought this hard before. I go and check it out and this fish is really fighting. (she had a really small pole and older reel so that didn’t help) She finally brings it in thinking she has the granddaddy of all bass. Turns out it was a very large gold fish that she had somehow hooked through the back fin. Because of that the fish was swimming away from here the whole time and could use all it’s strength. Goldfish are difficult to unhook…but we had him swimming away in no time. Needless to say I was laughing pretty hard and she was laughing/embarrassed.

A couple of years ago I went to my favorite fishing spot in north central Connecticut. The fish are usually quick at taking the bait. But this one day was not like the others. After moving from one area to another over the course of one hour, I finally felt a tug on the line. The tug felt firm. Slowly I reeled the line in and there was a piece of paper hanging off the hook. It was a note from the fish that read, "Thanks for dropping us a line." Signed by A. Trout

The time I was fishing at night for largemouths with a surface lure (a Hula Popper), and the fish threw the lure. Well, I had a lot of tension on the line at that point, and don't you know, that Hula Popper came sailing through the dark and smacked me right in the left eyebrow. The front hooks pierced my forehead, and the back hooks pierced my eyelid.

Oh yeah, this was off in the woods, and I'd already slightly sprained my ankle that night (it still gives me a twinge now and then).

Anyway, it was a long cumbersome walk out of the woods, holding the lure with one hand and fending off tree branches with the other. Luckily I was with a buddy who carried my gear out for me.

The big payoff though was walking through the doors of the Emergency Room with my hand over my forehead, then uncovering as I said something like "Hey, think ya' can help me out with this?". I don't think they ever before saw anyone with a Hula Popper attached to their face; must have been quite a sight.

Now, along your lines, I once caught a nice big pickerel on a stick lure (Rebel), and he was giving a good fight and thrashing about for a minute or so, when all of a sudden, the line sort of went dead, but still with weight on it. Turns out that poor guy had thrashed around so much that he ended up hooking his tail onto the back set of hooks on the lure - he came in looking like a big ol' fish donut.

I was on a pontoon fishing and i saw this kid that i cant stand rowing an inflatable boat into the weeds. He grabbed his fishing pole casted and stood up in the back of it. The boat started to flip and he went under. My and my best friend were laughing so hard we were crying. He had to swim and push the boad through the weeds to get back to shore.

Don't know about crazy but I once caught a finger long minow on an 18' muskie lure. I tossed him in the bait bucket for use later. Waste not want not.
