We innocently buy on favorable assurances and false claims and we find ourselves cheated.

We innocently trust blessings-brokers who sell us situation-specific non-existing holy wares and we find ourselves conned.

I would say -

1) appeal to emotion rather than logical persuasion

2) appeal to assumed "shared values" rather than altruism, diversity, and unique individuality

3) vagueness and non-specificity - it's hard to hold someone to their promises when they were not specific

4) appeal to conformity and fear of abandonment - "everyone" wants this/feels this way - and you are an idiot/heathen if you don't
