I would definitely say NYU mostly because of its location in the heart of NYC. Besides the fact that NYU is a great school for the performing arts, there are lots of great job opportunities in the city. NYU's campus is New York City, meaning there is no gated off area that belongs specifically to NYU, however the dorms are not too bad. They're the best deal you'll ever find on housing in new york, that's for sure!

California is a much better place if your are looking for exposure. The music industry is more or less centered around the LA area and there are a multitude of venues so you can work on your performance. The only down side is that music is a very difficult industry to get into because of the pool of available talent. Being innovative and creative in your art will get you noticed.

I think that California would be best if you are looking for a career in those areas. Not only is It a revered college of the Arts, but it is also in one of the best places for young inspiring talent. But maybe I'm being a little biased, considering the fact that I am Nor Cal born and bred.

I would say California.
California is the home of hundreds(maybe more) of recording studios.
I have a friend who is going to California right now.
About a year after she went she became involed in recording her own music.
She is still going to ffinish school though.
Good Luck ~_*

You might want to confirm whether as a student you'll be permitted to pursue outside ventures while attending these schools. I don't think you're allowed to at NYU--- at least you weren't allowed to 10 years ago... might help you with your decision. Best of Luck.
