My boyfriens is complaining that his kidneys hurt, when I ask how does he know it's his kidneys he says he just feels them. If it is true what could that be?

Yes, I have had kidney pain myself. Although I do think its weird that BOTH of his hurt. He may have a kidney infection or kidney stones. If he has recently had a bladder infection and it did not go away, it may have spread to the kidneys. Kidney stones would be tested for with a CAT scan, and a kidney infection with a urine sample.
He also may have just pulled a lower back muscle.

Usually kidney pain can be felt across the lower lumbar. It feels like lower back pain, but may actually be the kidneys. If he is having a true kidney infection, usually other symptoms will be present.
