I just ended a 5 year relationship and have been single about 8 months now. Is it too soon to start dating someone new? Most of my friends tell me I should wait at least a year but I am really not sure how long before I should start dating again.

Start dating when your tears stop flowing.

It's your heart. You should date when you feel you are ready. My bf broke up with me a week ago and I am already dating casually. We were together for 4 years off and on and I just couldnt take it anymore. Now, I am single and I am okay with that, although there is this one person in particular that I have liked for about 3 weeks. We have amazing chemistry but I'm not comfortable having a bf yet. So until I'm comfortable, we are dating. Basically, it depends on the person involved, not what everyone else says you should do.

5 years is a long time. But it all depends, sometimes it is best to move on so that you can stop reflecting on him. The first few dates will be hard but soon enough you'll get back in the swing of things and be fully moved on. It should all depend on yourself, if you feel ready go for it, just open to different, new people. You should go ahead and date someone, if you feel uncompfortable than wait longer.

Whenever you feel ready to date again. Don't time limit yourself ever! But you don't exactly want to start dating as soon as you break up with someone because then it makes ppl think of you in awkward ways.

8 months is enough,it depends on u if you have met someone and yet not making any step further. forget about falling in love, and engage yourself in activities u love. im sure the guy u left has already started a new life, and so should u..

there is no set time... just b tru 2 u. If u feel that u want to start again and can handle it responsibly then start again! If u feel like u cant handle it wait a while until u feel secure!

Neither your friend nor anyone of us can answer that for you. Search your feelings and make sure that your previous relationship is over. If you have any doubts about it, then it is not the right time. If it is definitely over, as soon as you feel comfortable.

Good luck!

There's no set time limit. If you feel ready, then do it. If you still feel emotionally fragile, then wait until you are ready. It is totally personal.
