i can't seem to understand the difference between paranoia and delusion.

my mom thought my grandpa was raping me. they said she was "delusional"...wouldnt that make her just paranoid? did she hallucinate this happening or something? what gave her that idea? did it just randomly pop in her head or something?

she thinks this one lady got into a fist fight with her but she never did, clearly thats a delusion but..how did she get that idea?

delusion is a false belief.

Paranoia is chronic psychosis characterized by fears, suspicion and well organized imaginary thoughts.

Your mom may definitely be paranoid, which means that she mistrusts and is suspicious of others. When you have delusions, you have a belief that has no basis with reality. In the mental health field there are several types of delusions. For example, you can believe that someone is out to hurt you or that you are being spyed on (persecutory delusions), you can believe that you are famous or know famous people (grandiose delusions), or that nights nightly news message had special meaning just for you (referential delusion). These (I believe) are limited to the person, meaning if your mom was really delusional, she would think that your grandpa was out to get her, instead of you.
Hope this helped and I didn't muddy up the water too much.

Paranoia means you always think or have a feeling that something is happening or going to happen.
Delusional meant that you actually believe that something happened when it didn't.

It doesn't matter what you call it, your Mom is having some problems and she needs help before she hurts herself of someone else.
