I have a gap in my front two teeth and I can fit my fingernail through it. I already need braces for my bottom teeth, so I was wondering if I need braces for my top teeth. A family friend said if you can spit through your two front teeth, then you need braces. I can do that so I was really wondering. I am only 11 so I want to know if I need braces for my top and bottom teeth.

If someone gets braces on their bottom teeth, I have crooked teeth all along the bottom, will you get braces on the top too?Or is it only if you have a problem with the top teeth?

usually the dentist will ask you what you want to do with your teeth and what look you are hoping to achieve.
then he will check your teeth and then tell you what he feels you need to accomplish the goal you are hoping to get.
if you need braces on both teeth he will tell you. if you like the gap and the rest of your upper teeth are straight, then you need to tell him you don't like the gap.
if you are unhappy with the gap and your bottom teeth are crooked, he will do upper and lower.
he will pull your upper teeth forward so the gaped teeth will come together. the bottom will alighn slowly until they are nice and straight.
good luck, you will have a beautiful smile.

Most likely you will get braces for your top teeth if there is a gap. You may not get them for a while, and your teeth might come together over time. Mine did the same thing, the new teeth I got pushed the 2 together. I still have braces on the top and bottom though. Unless you have already lost all of your baby teeth it's hard to tell. Just wait a little while.

Yeah why woulden't you? I mean if you went to an orthodontist their going to do top and bottom usually. So your teeth stay even. But they will notice the gap. Or if they don't (which that most likely will if it's that big) then just tell them to put braces on the top. Or your dentist will refer you to an orthodontist about your teeth if you haven't been already.
(I have braces by the way.)

there are a number of things that you can do so don't worry about this :)
you could go and see your dentist and see if they can refer you again to an orthodontist or they could always try building them up 1st with a white filling, this is called a composite and its the same co lour of your teeth.this is usually a good idea as the dentist doesn't have to drill down the teeth and if you don't like it you can always ask them to take it off, and then you can decide on the next step which would be veneers or a crown, both these are quite long persuaders for someone of such age so my advice to you is to talk to the dentist and go from there.
nothing in dentistry is permanent always remember that and they don't have a life guarantee so think wisely about what you think you should do
good luck and keep smiling :)

Hi, I'm 12, and I went to the Orthodontist yesterday, and I have the same problem as you, I have this humongus gap between my two front teeth. He took one look at me, and scheduled me to get braces next month. If your Orthodontist does not think you need braces, you might want to find one who does. I think you would be making the right decision.

Maybe, maybe not. Both me and my sister had gaps in between our front teeth like you. But our teeth naturally closed the gap and we both have very straight teeth now and have never had braces.

that is for your orthodintics to decide. if your teeth are pretty straight you might just need laminate veneers to fill in the gap.

MAYBE IT REALLY MATTERS WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT, HOW IT MAKES YOU FEEL WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT DON'T GO BY WHAT SOMEONE ELSE TELLS YOU, BECAUSE REALLY IT'S WHAT YOU THINK YOU SHOULD DO, AND HAY IF IT'S NOT THAT BAD WHY SPEND MONEY THAT YOU REALLY DON'T NEED TO SPEND, MY HUSBAND HAS A GAP, BUT HE STILL LOOKS GOOD!

braces go on both arches . They will fix everything at the same time.

Ask your dentist about getting your teeth bonded, or porcelain veneers.
