That actually happened to me last year and at the time I did not know what to do. I live in a supposedly secure highrise building where there is supposed to be someone at the front desk 24/7. A man knocked on my door yelling he needed help and to tell you the truth, I didn't believe him because we all have phones and with security at the front desk, I just didn't understand why he didn't get help that way. I have since decided that if something like this happens again, I will call 911. They could help him if it truly was an emergency or arrest him for disturbing neighbors in the middle of the night if it was fake.

I would hope I had a peep hole on the door, so I could look and see what is going on. I would call 911. With the way people are going around shooting other people, I don't feel I would go out and intervene. If I looked out and seen only the victim was yelling for help I just might tell him come in. But my first instinct would be to call the cope.

Unfortunately that is not an easy question to answer. Opening your door might put you in a dangerous situation, but not helping someone in need is not exactly great behavior. I would look out the window to try and assess situation and call 911 before opening the door.

I'm not sure what I'd do today, but years ago my ex-husband and I answered the door under those circumstances. A young girl was begging to be let in, and we peeked out the front window and saw a car with a man sort of slowly cruising by. Turns out it was the girls big sister's drunken boyfriend, and instead of going to the store where she thought he was taking her, he took her all the way up the hill where we lived and tried to attack her at the end of the cul de sac where there weren't any homes. My ex was a police officer and went out (in hindsight, also dumb) and confronted the man within an inch of his sorry life, and drove the girl home and told her mom she should press charges against him. I'm glad we did that for her sake, because no one else believed her.

Call the Police. Why open a door? Are you going to help someone when someone is shooting at them, or trying to stab them? Think you won't get hurt? By calling the Police its recorded, help is coming, and you will still be ok when its over!

Since I am a single woman who lives alone I would NOT open the door. I would offer to call the police for them but that is about all I would be willing to do. MY safety comes first.

At railway stations and tube and don't ignore to "recommendations the hollow" on the underground. I easily have usual 3 human beings in my opinion who've slipped one leg down the hollow on the economic company/Monument in London.
