Actually, in my experience, there are many more atheists in communities with hellfire and brimstone Christianity (read: Bible Belt). Comminities that are very accepting and well, liberal in beliefs, actually have less atheists (my own California has a relatively small and unorganized atheist comminity).

Yup. There was a case recently where death threats were made against atheist parents who politely asked that their school not include sanctioned Bible study.
