It only works if Christians "forgive those who trespass against us" as much as we have been forgiven ours by God.
Benefit: We should be about doing as it says in the "prayer Our Savior Christ has taught us" - the Our Father...

It benefits the world because it saves people FROM the world and makes them Christian!
The changes that come as a result of forgiveness are all the fruits of the spirit. Love, patience, kindness, gentleness, etc. Not to mention an ability of yourself to be able to forgive others.

When we come into this world our eyes are closed and we are broken off from our Heavenly Father. We are born with our bodies alive but we are spiritually dead. When a person becomes a child of God they are given life from the Holy Spirit, their eyes are open and they are literally reborn into a brand new being.Kind of like a catepillar becomming a beautiful butterfly. In this way they are no longer Satans slave and a slave to sin. They are now safe inside Jesus where He now lives for them through them.Satan therefore cannot witness against us and torment us with our sins. The world benefits from this as it brings light into a world filled with darkenss. It gives life to those who were dead and leads even more people into the light away from Satan and into our Father. When we are reborn our sins which we committed before we were saved and forever after that are completly forgiven.God doesn't even remember them.Jesus died for all sin that's every sin that has ever been committed from beginning of time to the end here on earth. We are changed from within by Jesus who will live inside us so his very nature slowly becomes our own as we are slowly moved away from our flesh which is sinful and closer to the spirit which does not sin.We still sin as long as we are in our earthly bodies it is unavoidable but the sins we commit are not like those of people who we once were when we didn't know any better.Jesus took sin and made it a non issue with his ultimate sacrafice. He is victorious over Satan. Now the only thing we need in which to save us is Life because we're still dead.Upon recieving life we recieve forgiveness as well.Religion will make you beg and plead for forgiveness every day of your life, making you think Gods love is conditional. When in fact he's wanting you to know that when you are forgiven it is done.Once and for all.All he requires of you afterwards is to love him with all your heart and to love eachother.Jesus will do the rest.

It's not the benefit to the world that should be the focus here. We have all sinned and broken God's laws (10 commandments + others). Therefore, we are seperated from a Holy God. What matters is God wants to be reunited with us. That can only be accomplished by our acceptance of his perfect sacrifice in Jesus. Once you reaize the gravity of that sacrifice and that bears love in your life then God will make a difference in the world through you.
God Bless!

Ans 2Q1: God isn't out to please the world is he?
Ans 2Q2: The changes come on a personal level and if a person continues to repent, learn, and develop their relationship with God, they change as a person (for the better). These changes are listed in the bible and are to numerous to list here but from what I can tell, in general, the person becomes a better person and I would think that a better person in general contributes positively to the world.

Forgiveness has already been given on the cross, the benefits are only for those that repent and walk with the lord according to his ways.

God forgives everyone in the world who asks for His forgiveness, and humble themselves before Him acknowledging and confessing that they have been rebellious and disobedient towards Him.
You will be less bitter/angry. Forgiving will become a habit.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
