I think the biggest problem is that most people do not know how much Alcohol they have drunk when they get in a car.

I was banned for 30 months and as part of my probation I attended a Drinking & Drive course where I learned all about Alcoholic units and how long they stay in the bloodstream. I was amazed (ie: 2 pints of Stella = 11 units = Blood Alcohol reading over 35Ml for 5 Hours!). At the time I had a problem with Alcohol that I was unaware of (Thats not an excuse, I did wrong was caught and punished, its somthing I have to live with.) so now I dont drink at all.

I now know lots of people who drink and drive regularly and I would shop them if I saw them doing it and have told them so. This is not a case of being vindictive, Now I know what the consequences can be I shudder to think what can happen.

A few months ago a friend of mine hit a stationary car and killed the lady sat in it. He is now doing 8 years for manslaughter. It is rarely the person drinking that gets the worst of the injuries.

The penalties for D&D are strong enough and there is not a lot of room for a magistrate to allow for mitigating circumstances so 'Fleeing from an attacker' unless proof were available might not always work. If more people knew they could be put in prison for a first offence or dropped the 'It wont happen to me' attitude then that would leave only the hardened drinkers who just don’t care and they deserve everything they get.

Drinking and Driving is wrong 100%. Leave your keys at home. Take a Taxi or the Bus. Don’t Drink. Etc.. Etc..............

Drink AND drive?
Like beer?
And other alcohol?
I would say it's not wise, or, at LEAST no acceptable. Beer does funky things with your head. It makes you loose control and no think clearly, and when you're going 25, 40, 55, maybe even 60 miles per hour, that could be quite dangerous.
Imagine spinning around, and around, and around, and around, and around and around and around and around and around like a little kid non-stop and then went behind the wheel and immediately started driving without recovering and still having that dizzy high feeling. Uh, yeah. This is what would happen if you stood behind the wheel long enough.
Acceptable?
Um... is having the high danger rating and high death rate to go along with it, I really wouldn't call it 'acceptable'.
It depends who you talk to.
And those who DO find it acceptable?
Needless to say they're idiotic.

This is 1 of my personal things I hate! I am a biker and its bad enough with sober driver on the road! Why oh why oh why do the governments make it clear if your drive you drink NO alcohol! To me is sends the wrong message it's of the have 1 drink etc. I have a wife and baby and shudder to think I could be killed by some stupid t*at who thought " I'm OK to drive" grrrrrr

My law school prof said, "It's not illegal to drink and drive. It's illegal to drink TOO much and drive."

Most people have no idea how alcohol actually impairs their reaction speed. Even small amounts, for some people, can cause them to have impaired judgment. They think they are okay if they can stay on the road.

It's still a huge issue but more and more people are drinking responsibly by not driving their cars or giving their keys to a sober friend.

No it is never acceptable to drink drive. I have nursed quite a few people injured in RTA's caused as a result of drink driving. The impact on not only the patient, but also their family is tremendous as is the stigma of being a drink driver. Not to mention the possibility of being imprisoned for murder, etc if you kill someone

It is still a huge issue and is definitely not acceptible.

If I knew someone was going to drive after a few drinks I would try and stop them, if I couldn't I would then phone the police and grass them up.

Better to report them than wait to hear of an accident - that no doubt they will survive uninjured and hurt someone else.

Don't know where you're at but it is a big issue and it should be. It's deadly. If the drunk were the only person endangering himself I could care less, drive away and have fun, but the problem is it's often other people getting killed. Don't do it.

No, because the driver is not only risking his/her own pathetic life but potentially endangering the life of the other car driver who
with whom the drink diver may crash into. Drink driving is careless and reckless, and its always innocent law abiding citizens who suffer the fatal consequences.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to drink in moderation and drive. I have been doing it safely for thirty years.

It is much more dangerous driving while being female and it is even more dangerous driving while being female at the wrong time of the month.

It's always a big problem. You drink and drive, you're being irresponsible and putting yourself and everyone else on the road, including pedestrians, in serious danger.
