well im 17 and i am considering/want to be put on medication for depression, I think it would be a good idea because i have been dealing with depression since I was 11 and i am at my worst point right now, if this continues.......I dont know what to do, i have a hard deal with things and over coming them, i am mainly depressed because of moving, loosing friends, grades, school, pressure to do my best, wanting to be accepted, feeling lonely, low self esteem, fighting with my parents and other things, I know nothing in life is easy but how can i get over this hump and be strong, I really want to but life seems so depressing for me, i wanna be happy :( but i dont know how im gonna do that, should I take meds? My mom said it wouldnt be good for me, but i think it would, she offered to take me to a doctor because she doesnt know how to help me

You are not too young to be treated for depression. Many of the traditional antidepressants are not for younger people though; they act differently on your brain. Would your mom consider taking you to a mental health professional rather than just a medical doctor? I think that would be much better for you.

I suffered from depression at a very young age also. I never did get help for it. I because severely depressed when I got older and am now taking medication for it. I think I would be much better off if I would have gotten help at a younger age.

As far as the medication though, if your doctor decides to put you on medication PLEASE be honest about how you feel on it. The professionals can work with you if you watch for changes when you are on medication.

Good luck to you.

that is a question for the doctor, but 17 is not too young, depending on the medication, i have been on meds for a long timme now and i found some can lead to atempted suicide... but going back to the question you arnt too young.
