Huge issue. In a joint mission to completely obliterate their mothers mental wellness my two little girls managed to find a candle with nice smooth wax. My 21 month old daughter had a stroke of genius and desided to rub it in her hair. She got it good. As fun as it is to be able to shape her hair and have it stay (it is really funny) I am in need of a way to get the wax out with out of course harming my daughter or her hair. Any insight would be much appreciated.

The wax is really smooth almost like a hair pomade, I tried to get it out with a comb but it only rubs it in even more! My in-laws are coming over in about an hour, and I'm going to have a heart attack!!!

The best way to do it would be with an iron and a paper towel, but I doubt that your baby has long enough hair for it to be safe. Take 2 large metal spoons, and put the large ends in a pot of water for 30-60 seconds. Wrap the large ends in paper towels and put the hair in between both of them. The heat from the spoons will melt the wax but it will be absorbed by the paper towels. The spoons will obviously not hold heat as well as an iron, so you will have to repeat as necessary. You could also use a washcloth wrapped around a curling iron if the hair is long enough for that.

Baby oil. Her hair may be a little greasy after, but baby shampoo ought to take care of that as it is very alkaline. Start sparingly and work it in and then comb thru it and rub it off on a dry paper towel. Shampoo and voila ! Any time you have anything that has an oil base, IE chewing gum, (rubber which is petroleum), candle wax, etc. baby oil should do it. If you want to get(( something out of clothes, try Lestoil and rinse immediately.))

I would put some shampoo in her hair then add some baking soda to it. Rub it around then rinse. Repeat if necessary. Baking soda is a lifting agent, so it should help lift the wax out of the hair. Good luck!

Hopefully it is not close to her scalp. If that is the case, apply ice and try combing again. The cold should make it somewhat brittle and crack away from her hair.
