A Easy Paced 30 minute work out on an elliptical trainer or a 15 minute fast paced work out on an elliptical trainer. I burn about 100 more calories doing the 15 minute workout.

I am trying to lose weight, and so far have lost about 15lbs.

As far as burning calories, in general the farther the distance you travel, the more energy you expend.

If you want to burn fat, try HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). It involves changing speeds at intervals. For example, if you want to use an elliptical trainer, you would start off doing an easy, jog pace for 5 minutes. Then for the next minute, switch to a sprint pace. Then jog for another few minutes, and sprint for another few minutes. Keep repeating for 10-15 minutes. It will really wear you out, but greatly build your endurance and burn lots of fat.

Studies have shown that HIIT is better at burning fat than sprinting, jogging and walking. It has to do with preventing your body from reaching equilibrium. If you walk, your body reaches equilibrium quickly. Jogging takes a little longer, but it gets there. With HIIT, your heart rate and cardiovascular system are constantly changing and do not reach an equilibrium level. This burns more calories, specifically fat as it is a readily available stored energy source in your body.

Try it out, and good luck.

Personally, i would say the elliptical since it gets your heart rate up and would most likely bringing into a "fat burning" zone.
Perhaps you could alternate between the two- do the 30 minute one day and the 15 minute the next day. It will keep your body on its toes by having a varied system of working out and the 30 minute day will allow for a slight relaxation period from the 15 minute workout.

I would do the elliptical trainer at a moderate pace for 30 minutes, if you can. While you burn more calories going faster, I've read that it's actually better to go slower for a longer period of time than to go faster for a shorter period of time. It actually helps your metabolism to do the slower one because you're keeping your heart rate up for a longer period of time. (But don't make it suuuper easy! haha :) )

Awesome job, by the way. Sounds like you're working hard!

Try doing intervals on the elliptical machine -- having your heart rate go up and down will help burn more --

It takes 20 minutes to get the heart rate up.
After the 20 minutes is when fat is burned. Interval training (fast, slow, fast) is best to attack the metabolism.
