Walk up to him and say with a very serious face : "You're not the boss of me" and if he doesn't laugh, don't waste your time on him.

Fact of the matter is, you need to buck up on this one. Just go in and start talking. You have a story, then tell it. Something happen that has made you think, talk about it. Just whatever comes to mind, about pretty much anything, is like to start a decent conversation, especially when its between two lovebirds.
The flirting issue, just be warm and inviting when you talk to him. A lovely face is hard to refuse.
Best of Luck, and remember that confidence is the key.

It's really easy to get to know him and spark a convo. Just join some activities you know he's in, and then if you ever get to pass by him you have more topics to talk about. For example, if he's in like Honors English and you are too, maybe one day the teacher will assign a big project. You can just go up to him and say something like this:
"Ugh that project Ms. A assigned is brutal," playfully to show that you aren't addicted over school or something. Most likely he would agree with or offer to help you. Then you can ask him about what he's planning to do about it and just ask casual questions. Don't just go up to him though. Like I said, get to know him by joining the same activities or maybe even talk to his friend. Good luck!

Complement him about the way he looks, something he is wearing, how he smells, his car, etc. Thank him for something he has done or said. Apologize for not doing something or for doing something wrong. Ask him for directions or for information. Ask about a recent item in the news. Something on TV. A recent movie. Ask what he likes to do for a hobby or exercise. Ask him what sports he is interested in doing and then read up on that sport and ask him what team he is for and where they are in the standings and why he likes them and what he thinks there changes to get into the play offs. Ask him where he went to school. Ask him about his favorite grocery store or car or country or restaurant or move star or movie or tv program. Favorite food. YOu ask him a question and then when he answers you ask him another question about his answer and so on. Then you talk about how you would answer the question. You can ask him what he would like to find out about you. Tell him to ask you any thing he wants to know about you. Tell him you will even answer personal questions. Tell him if there is something he wants to see you might even show him. Or touch, you might even let him touch it. Then depending on what he wants to see or touch tell him you will trade something of his to see or touch for something of yours to see or touch.

You sound like you are still in school so the best thing is...Ask him if he's going to the game...
That'll break the ice...
