In a war such as the Iraq war and the total negative media coverage... Why there were only 15 troops backing themselves in possible unfriendly waters?

We have the technology on aircraft carriers to seek, recognize and destroy incoming jets, missiles, ships, torpedoes, and everything else, but these troops didn't have the technology to know they are being perused in war territory?

Also, with the suspicion of Iran funding and helping terrorists across the Iraqi boarder... How the hell did they even get into these Iraqi waters?

Abdul??? What?! THese Iranians are supposed to be savages and you talk of not wanting anyone to die over this?

What if they acted the way people claim they are and just took the heads of all 15? Then there would have been a war!

Simple facts, the British and Iran's navies operate almost sided buy side along the border. They may pass each other daily. They are not hostile parties. Iran chose to take political hostages this was their chance. They could be expected to get within 1-1/2 miles of the British ship's and not raise any alarm. They won the battle once they closed in on the small boats. Friendly fire and rules of engagement protected them.

The 15 men were captured in small rubber craft launched from the main boat(HMS Cornwall, if I remember). The news is saying that the Cornwall was 1.7 nautical miles into Iraqi waters, while the Iranians say they were 0.5 nautical miles inside Iranian territory.

I think the Cornwall stayed on the Iraqi side, and launched those special forces knowingly towards Iranian waters. They're trying to provoke Iran into war, and it's probably going to work. Next week is going to suck.

Why were they taken without a shot or even a whimper?!! They're armed for God's sake, conducting SECURITY inspections on ships in a WARZONE DURING A TIME OF WAR! They should be ready for anything or else why have Brits conduct searches outside of BRITISH waters? So why were they so easy to take and without a fight?

There was backup. HMS Cornwall was nearby, and a Lynx helicopter was circling overhead. But intervention would have meant firing on Iranian ships, and we in Britain really don't want to start another war. We're fed up with the one we've got, and we don't want anyone to die over this. It's good that HMS Cornwall didn't fire on the Iranian boats - that way we're likely to get our troops back. Had it fired, the troops would be dead now, along with thousands of Iranians.
