I have always believed things happen for a reason, and that has been proven to me again and again in life, but one thing doesn't make sense: Why am I afaid (in some cases terrrified) of needles?

I am terrified of needles too! But, I can tell you that what helps me a great deal is NOT watching while the needle is inserted. I have found that it is the anticipation and anxiety upon the needle entering your body rather than the actual pain that frightens me the most. The pain should not be severe at all if the nurse knows what she is doing. Never watch the nurse insert the needle. In fact, tell he or she that you'd rather not know when they are about to do it. Turn your head away and sing a little song or laugh a little bit and just try to make light of the situation. I assure you that you are SO NOT ALONE in your fear about this! Also, try not to even think about it if you know you have a doctors appointment and will be getting a shot...ignore it until you're actually in the doctors office and then just NEVER look at the needle. I hope this helps you the way it has helped me :)

Take care hon

A lot of people are. It's a common phobia. I used to know a big tough lumberjack who would faint if he saw a needle. I think for most people it's deep down a fear of what the needle represents...a shot. Remember how scary that was as a kid? I think some people internalize it more than others. Probably learning to avoid things that cause you pain is good for survival.

It's a normal thing! The last time I was at a doctors office just thinking about needles I almost passed out!

It's just a phobia, many people have it. You may have had a bad experience with needles when you were young, or you inherited the phobia. I wouldn't be too concerned, nobody is a fan of needles. However, if you're really concerned, a psychologist can help.

Society, (stories around the dinner table, movies, cartoons, TV show, etc.) have conditioned us to have unrealistic fears. The truth is, needles really don't hurt, that much. I had a patient in the office today who has tattoos, three ear-rings in each ear, and her nose pierced.....and yet she was terrified of a dental needle.....go figure!

Um, because they usually hurt like a Mo'fo. I also have a phobia of needles. I am one of those people that "they" never have to worry about being a IV drug user.
Just the thought of it piercing the skin is well, terrifying. I have anxiety attacks everytime it gets close to a doctors appointment.
I don't even like watching other people get shots! I have to turn my head

just knowing that its a long pointy thing that is going to go in your body..and put things in it...or take things out..I use to be afraid of needles until I had my first kid...after I had my daughter..I figured nothing else could ever beat that pain...so now I just go with the flow and let the dr/nurse do what they have to do with the needle..

well if you are afraid of injections its perfectly natural and human to have a fear of something piercing your skin. anything that causes pain your brain will have a natural fear of. its nothing to be ashamed of. if you werent somewhat concerned or afraid of being pricked by a needle, itd be uncommon.

I don't konw but it is normal. I have to get shots every so often and I don't like them. I am afraid of other things and it is only natural. Try not to worry about it too much.

Except for junkies, everyone is afraid of needles. There is nothing wrong with you.
