How do you curl hair with a curling iron. Do you hold it vertically adn twist around, or if you use it horizontally do you roll up or do you roll is up and go underneath. Detailed answers are greatly appreciated, or pictures of how to do it. Thanks

It depends on what kind of curl you want. If you are just curling the ends, hold it horizontal and curl towards your head for an under curl, and away from your head for a flip. If you want to do big barrel curls, hold the iron vertical, with the barrel pointed up, and roll from the bottom to the top of the barrel. You can roll it either toward you or away from you. Use a bigger iron for bigger curls, and smaller for smaller curls.

From my experience, it all depends on what kind of curl you want. You also want to use the right size curling iron. If you're wanting "curls" i.e. ringlets or spirals, you will curl your hair vertically. The smaller the curling iron, the tighter the rings. If you're just wanting to add body or lift to your hair, curl horizontally. This just lifts your roots away from your scalp, giving the look of thicker hair. Hope this helps.

If you want really bouncy curls roll the curling iron up horizontally it works and most defiantly looks better than curling vertically!!!!!!!

I use it vertically because your curls look more like spiral curls and they flow better.
