i too remember Bush on the deck of that carrier with the big "Mission Accomplished" banner hanging behind him --- man, that seems like a long time ago doesn't it?

98% of our casualties have come SINCE that idiotic declaration, i might add.

What was the mission in May 2003? A: remove Hussein from power. Was it accomplished? A: sort of, at that time Hussein was not in power, but he and his cronies were still in hiding, able to return to power once we left. But your statement is either disingenuous or ignorant; Bush never said "mission accomplished" he stood on the deck of a USN ship that was being rotated home which put up the banner Mission Accomplished. For those sailors the mission was accomplished and they were coming home. Bush said to those sailors - good job! we can now end the first phase of Op IRAQI FREEDOM and move on to the 2nd phase rebuilding the country and establishing a moderate secular government. As for happy, I'll only be happy if we achieve victory.

You're quoting out of context, so what?

I never heard anyone use anything close to your quote.

I do remember President Bush point out in the SOTU address that this would be a long conflict and that it would take patience on the part of the American people.

There are no quick fixes. This is not "24".

I will personally be extremely happy when this war is over, and we have achieved victory.

I'm not going to go into a long explanation of what that would look like but suffice to say it would be a stable peaceful Iraq.

And yes I believe that is possible.

Our orriginal mission of taking out Sadam and installing a government which has a successfull election was a sucess. The problem is that now other factions are battling for power via sectarian violence and if we leave now than one of the 2 factions will win and we will have a "new" saddam in power and we will have to come back to re-take the country from the dictator again. Doesnt taht make sense? Why fight the war twice when you can fight it once, plus theyll be stronger when we come back next time.

Why wouldn't anyone be happy if the war is over? Just because you support(ed) the war doesn't mean that you want war to last forever. I think only a few extreme people actually enjoy war.

Only George W. Bush said it was over on that date. You'd have to ask him.

Strange question since major combat operations were NOT over and everyone knows that.

What's your point?
