I don't give to the church. I give 20% of my salary directly to charities. I also volunteer.

The Bible says to give as God purposes in your heart. It also says to give as God prospers. Tithing as a practice has Biblically been abolished.
The literal meaning of "tithe" is 10%, but it didn't signify a monetary gift. It was food.

10% (The root word for tithing literally meant 10%).

We don't do the collection plate thing, we hand a sealed envelope with a check directly to the leaders of the congregation (how much my 10% is, or anyone else's 10% is - just really isn't anyone else's business).
