Well, I'm a bmw fan, my dad had plenty of BMW's, and from what i've seen... It all depends on how the car was maintained before by the previous owner. Look at the engine, is it clean, or just really messy, dusty... it tells you a lot. My dad had a 525i a couple of years ago, went up till 180000 miles with no breakdown. but I have a 528, a newer one, and i spent over 5000 dollars just in maintenance cause it wasn't reliable. BMW is tricky when it comes to reliabily.
This may sound like a good deal, but the mileage is kinda high, and you might have to put a couple of thousands of dollars in it (maybe 1000) if it breaks down. But, like I said, depends on how the car was maintained. Look at the common sites, to see if the owner took care of it.
But, its your decision. One major advantage is that its a bmw and since you're in school, you're gonna have a cool car. Hope this helps in any way. good luck

and insurance wasn't high for me. I had my 528i when I was 17 (i'm now 19) and I think i payed 120 per month liability, it was a good deal.

It sounds like a good deal as far as the price for the car. However I have a few reservations about it being your first car. BMW's are very expensive to repair. This is a 13 year old car with a lot of miles on it. You should prepare yourself for some expenses if that is the car you want. I would suggest having the car checked out by a competent mechanic. At least then you will have a better idea of what you are getting into.

Not worth it, there are to many miles and you will just shell out money to fix it more then anything. Don't settle for the first good one that comes around. Keep looking and keep your options open. I got my first car for 6,000 dollars and it only had 89,000 miles, see they are out there. Try to get something that is at least like 4 years or older and also the mileage is under 100,000. That is when they are least likely to have problems. And they are in better shape.

It sounds like a good deal. Your insurance is going to be high as well on a car like that and your only 16.
