When I sleep alone I have to have a light on or I can't go to sleep. When it is dark I see figures of things and the shadows scare me. I am a very normal person but when I talk to anyone about it they just think I am joking or something. My grandma used to stand at my door when I was younger and tell me to go to sleep or she would come scare me. She died.

Ironically this is very common, with todays generation how could not be afraid of the dark! Heck I don't like being home alone and I am 30 years old. I lived on my own briefly and thought of moving home with my mom cause I was so scared of the dark and being by myself. With serial killers, and just plan psycho's give me a reason not to be. My friend you are among a huge group of us who are. So give me my woobie and pacifier and leave me alone for those he dare to make fun of me and call me a baby!

I would rather be scared then let my guard down and be dead!

This is nothing to be ashamed of. I am 38 and I still sometimes get scared of the dark. It's the unknown and if you have an imagination things can get away from you. Honey everyone is scared of something and if this is your thing don't fight it. Just accept it and leave your nightlight on. You will be fine!

This is no shame. If you are still scared of the dark, thats fine! Seeing shadows is what I do, but I have so much light in my bedroom! Don't be ashamed and if people laugh, they aren't your real friend.
