Here's my problem we have a 1998 Ford Windstar and the a/c works from the dashboard no problem however the back vents when they are turned on only shoot out heat same for the vents in the cieling. Any one know what causes this and how to fix it?

In spite of what floridaman39 says, minivans don't have a separate a/c system for the back. If they did, you would need 2 compressors, 2 condensors, etc. What usually happens with a situation like this, is that the vacuum controlled diverter system seizes up, or else a vacuum line has fallen off. Check up under the dash where the heater & a/c controls are for a missing or broken vacuum line connection. If the a/c works out of the dash outlets, the problem isn't with the a/c, its with the distribution ducting.

Most mini-vans have dual A/C systems. It sounds like your rear system needs repair.
