There are too many variables to answer that question accurately. It depends on what dates you travel, day of the week, and even time. "Red-eye" (overnight) flights are usually cheaper. It also depends on which airports you fly out of. For example, Ft. Lauderdale is often cheaper than Miami. (But of course that would mean you would have to get to Ft. Lauderdale, so if the cost of the ticket is only a little bit less, then it might actually cost you more to get to the airport than you'd be saving).

In general, I have found that it's cheaper to book through the airlines websites than through sites like expedia.com or travelocity.com because I always get the exact same fares, but those sites charge a "booking fee" of $5 or more than the airlines don't charge. Also, check the "low-fare" airlines' websites (like Southwest Airlines or JetBlue) because they don't have their fares on those sites like expedia, only on their own sites. So check them as well, although many times they are no cheaper than the regular airlines.

Basically, be as flexible as possibe and shop around.

More logically - it will be difficult to tell you the exact cost as it varies upon the dates you choose and from which airport you are boarding....as the chances of getting cheaper deals from unpopular location is more in compare to popular places or airports.

Try to check the fares during midnight as this is the time when you will find the fares cheaper.

For all my personal bookings I used to try the airlines websites but from the last 7-78 occasions I have used cheapoair.com - it was referred to me by my friend and I must tell you that I am very happy with them.. I travel a lot and as you know it involves lots of money - ..with cheapoair - I have got the cheapest price....

So its your call...I am also agreeing to the fact that airlines do offer cheaper deals - so the logic is - shop around a bit to get a better deal...

all the best..
