"Friends" was filmed in California; the fountain used in the beginning of the show is really in a Burbank studio.

The shots used for Monica and Rachel's building are the Greenwich Village Building at the corner of Bedford and Grove Streets - 90 Bedford (there is a great restaurant downstairs - The Little Owl).

the exterior shot of the appartment was in Manhattan's Greenwich Village.. the actual building is located at 90 Bedford Street. crossings of grove and bedford st. but the series was shot in california
