If you want to go by what the Bible says, the answer is to cultivate love. It all starts there and you wont have to ask the question, bec. then you'd have the answer. It'll be like falling in love - you'll do your best because you are in love and do what is right or what is in the Bible.

I am just so sad with this obsession in religions about going to heaven. It has become a status, a symbol, an excuse to some, a startup question for preachers/evangelizers, etc.. in which case it shouldn't be. Because, if you really want to be close to God (which should be the reason for wanting to go to heaven), you wouldn;t want to wait to die and go to heaven. You'll live a life that has a relationship with God - that has spirituality.

Jesus said that the greatest commandment was that we love one another.

He constantly preached about the Kingdom of Heaven. This is a government, with Jesus as King, that will rule over a paradise earth. The paradise earth was God's original purpose for man, and that which God purposes, he always makes happen.

So, Jesus also commanded us to teach the Kingdom throughout the earth. Then the end will come. Going to heaven is not the goal of most of us. Life on paradise earth is.

The answer is simple. The ten commandments are there to convict. They show us our sin and our helplessness in that sin. Christianity is not about rules, it's about a relationship with a loving, just, and perfectly holy God. Once we recognize our sin and our need for God through the Commandments, we can come to Him and put our trust in Him to forgive us of our sins and we live for Him. This is how we achieve salvation. If we depend at all on our own works, we are not truly saved. Depend solely on Him and serve Him and you will be saved.

yeas, u have to accept Jesus as ur Lord and Savior. but in the old testament it says that u have to follow the ten commandments and not works on sundays... but that was for the jews. but in the new testament Jesus comes and dies on the cross for all of our sins making it so that US (not the jewss) could pray to God to accept him as our Lord and savior forever and have eternal life with him in heaven. so therefore, we shouldnt not follow them becuase they pretty much apply to any other rules in the world anyways but u dont have to. for example: all of the ten commandments are punishable by death except for coveting because u dont know that someone is doing it until they have done or said something about it which most likely breaks one of the other commandments anyways. but now, if u lie, do u die? no, becuase all u have to do is pray to God and ask Him for forgiveness and bam. God forgets about ur sin. so my answer to ur questions is yes, u have to accpet Jesus Christ as ur Lord and Savior, and no, u dont technically have to follow the ten commandments.

We have to follow Christ and ALL of his commandments. These can be found in the New Testament. The Old Testament was fulfilled and we are no longer living under the Mosiac Laws. All of the answers to salvation and what we must do can be found in the New Testament, including 9 of the 10 commandments (minus "remember the Sabbath..")

The plan of salvation can be summed up in 6 "steps".

Hear the word, Believe in Christ, Repent of your sins, Confess the name of Christ, Be Baptized and Live a faithful life. Without ALL of these steps, we have no hope of salvation.

You need to accept Jesus and you should follow the Commandments. Everyone sins and makes mistakes, but if you ask for forgivness and try to not commit the sin again, you'll be just fine!!!

Also, do we have to be immersed in water?
Do we have to speak in unknown tongues?
Do we have to believe in creationism?
Must we have a literal interpretation of all the Bible?

I've heard all of these things at one time or another.
