Funny you ask, because I recently did an entire report on photographers and their pay, etc. It turns out that if you're any good, you'll make about $30,000 a year. But everything you described about might up it to the "sucessful" range I studied as well, making the pay about $50,000. Yeah, it's pretty decent. Not movie-star glamorous--but not bad at all. I'm actually persuing a photography career of my own (more of street photography and fashion magazines, though), so good luck to you!

I say you should look into getting hooked up with a graphic designer as well if for nothing else but bartering great graphics for photog work. Marketing is a huge industry that consumes vast quantities of photo work and with the advent of the virtual office you can hook up with companies everywhere. Its good to network with companies who might refer you as a part of their service offering (flower shops, party rentals, wedding shops etc.) or take you on as the vendor of choice for a small reciprocal referral fee (5-10 % which is built into your fees anyway). Rock on picture-boy! Follow your bliss.

You need contacts and charisma. Takes a while to get profitable. Use your imagination and do A LOT of research. Good starts: all digital, kiosk program for showing off and ordering, online processing companies.

it is better to do something based on if it is something you enjoy doing more than how much it pays. The most unhappy person is the one with a high paying job that they hate and they can't quit because they have obligations.
My brother is well paid, he hates his job, and having to work too many hours, he doesn't enjoy what he does - money isn't worth worrying about. It doesn't do you any good if you are dead. Do what you enjoy - quit worrying about money. Life is short, enjoy your life.

The simple and quick answer is no, although hopefully that is not a reason to abandon your dream.
Even if you have a fantastic skill, you won't get rich just taking pictures.

I have wondered that as well and what I have found out is that if you advertise your service enough and get a good location where you are in demand, I believe you could make a good living out of it.
