How do we help her loose weight? She is still very playful and she eats diet (dry) food. The vet said her weight is fine, but she appears to be a bit round in the belly area.

Switch them both to a GOOD canned food. You can give them both about 1 can per day (6oz or so). Cats who need to lose weight will, and those who don't won't.

I have a skinny and a fatty and this is what I did - I use Natural Balance venison & green pea.

Hm - a tiny bit of extra weight is not unusual in older cats, but you're right to keep an eye on it of course. Whether animals are fat or not is judged more on body condition than weight, so I'm going to give you a link to a fabulous site with diagrams of ideal shapes, so you can decide when your cat has definitely got too fat! Other than that, I would just suggest checking the feeding guidelines on your food, and feed the right amount for a 4kg (average sized) cat - or 3kg cat if your cat is teeny!
Here's the link:

If the cat's weight continues to balloon, a change of diet will be in order rather than cutting down on her current food. All the info you need is on that link in fact!

Oh and congrats on being a responsible owner!!

I think it is better for a cat to be a little over weight because they will stay healthy it is when the y loose weight you have to worry. but seem s fine. what i would do is get a toy for him to play with by himself like feathers on a stick

If your vet says the cat is fine don't worry about it. If you are giving her diet cat food that is about all you can do anyway unless you can make your cat run on a treadmill or something.
