What would you think if you have been praying for job assistance from the Lord for the past 3-4 years and still no "doors" have open. I've been doing my part by sending resumes and going on interviews, and still nothing! I really just don't know what to do anymore. I will continue to look and send resumes, but if still nothing opens for me; what does this mean? Does God not want me to work? How should I interpret this? Please no disrespectful comments on God and prayers. Christian type answers only.

I am in the exact spot as you. And I'll tell ya, I'd like to THINK that it is God who is behind all of this and maybe he's saying - don't worry - none of these jobs were for you, my dear. Something will happen only if it's meant to be. That would be a really nice thought, huh? Let's pray we're both right on this, okay?

Well if you have been looking for the past 3-4 years there is definitely something wrong. You don't tell us some important stuff like what education you have, what jobs you've done in the past, and and what sort of jobs you are looking for. One thing I would recommend is to take your resume to a professional. It costs a couple hundred dollars, but it is a *very* good investment. You would be amazed at the difference, and it really pays off in the end. One thing you maybe should pray for, is the courage to go back and visit, let's say 5 of the people you have interviewed with in the last year. I know it will be hard, but if you have been looking 3-4 years, there is something really wrong. Set an appointment with these people, and calmly ask them what happened that cost you the job, and evaluate your interview with them, then calmly accept constuctive critique of your interview, and understand it's so you can improve the next time you are trying to make an impression on an interviewer. Don't get mad or anything like that, and don't take it personally, the interviewer does not know you well enough for you to take it personally. Just try to understand. Then pray for help to understand what they said to you, and help in changing whatever the problem was. It could be any number of things in the way you present yourself. If you get your resume professionally done, you may also want to talk to the resume person about how to have a good interview, and even better if she used to be in human resources for a company or two. It could also be that you are trying for jobs you aren't qualified for, and you should look at that as well. If you have been bringing your faith to the job interview with you, don't. I am not saying don't be a Christian, you know you're a Christian. But if you're bringing it to the interview, the interviewer could have concerns that you might bother the other employees or him with it, the employers job is to hire employees without discrimination, this is true, but if you have been bringing it up in the interview, it has no place in the work place. So if that is part of the problem, you need to be a Christian in your heart, but keep talking about it out of the workplace. It is time for a realistic evaluation of your self, your presentation, and your skills, so instead of praying for a job to appear, pray for help to learn, and improve, so you can make the right impression, and get that job next time, or at least have a better interview to encourage you on your way. This is not to say that you shouldn't pray for the job, go on and do that, but add prayer to help you understand what went wrong, and to help you correct it for your future. Good Luck....

hmmmmm, my sister recently went through a very dry spell like this. she just couldn't find anything and was really losing hope. then one day she sat down to talk to her pastor, and she asked him why God didn't hear her prayers for employment...........she wondered why God would want her to be unemployed for so long and to have bills piling up, etc. etc.
She said she was faithful to pray and to tithe, etc. Well, the Pastor asked her where God was leading her. What opportunities that had arisen that maybe she was ignoring or passing up. After a long conversation, and some soul searching she realized that the big 'fancy' jobs she was seeking wasn't what God wanted her to have. So, she went back to job seeking with a humble heart, an lo enough the first door she tried, opened...........and that job opened another door, and another door until she has the most amazing job. She loves it so much, she has gotten her whole life in order and cannot believe that she was so "blind" before. Maybe you are just missing an opportunity. Maybe you feel you aren't qualified for something..........or that you won't like the job..............but, you just never know how God can use a situation for the better. Afterall the Bible does say that God will finish the good work He has begun in us, and that he will use all things for His good. So, with that in mind, think back about your gifts, about past promises to God, about missed opportunities, or doors you have shut, and consider how God may want to be using you for His good!
And one last thing...........don't forget the Bible instructs us to knock and the door shall be opened, seek and you shall find. But, it also goes on to say, you do not have because you do not ask. I am always very careful to be specific with God when I am praying and asking for something!

I'll be praying for you.
God Bless you as you continue to seek!!!

Perhaps your prayers are not properly formed.

We know that God hears all the prayers of the righteous. But consider the following:

A Christian hunter is hunting bears in the woods. While walking up a hill he grabs a branch for leverage and it breaks sending the hunter tumbling down the hill, gun flying off elsewhere. When the hunter dusts himself off he sees a huge bear charging him. The hunter begins running, but trips and falls, landing on his knees. Seizing the opportunity, and being a good Christian, the hunter begins to pray, "Lord, make this bear a Christian."

The woods are quiet, the hunter turns and, Hallelujah! He sees the bear on his knees, paws together, praying! Listening, he hears the bear praying, "Father, bless this food to my body."

The key message here is that God answers prayers of the righteous, but the answer you get may not be the answer you want, but it will always be the right answer. Prayer is a coming to God, telling Him your need (or the need of others), committing your way unto the Lord, and then leaving God to deal with the case as seems best to Him.

How should one pray to God?

I speak to God in the same manner as I write these words to you now. That is, I have a plain conversation (no “thou’s” “thine’s”, “thy’s”!) with Him each day, usually out under the stars late at night as my family sleeps. My prayers are conversations that follow a pattern. I start every prayer with the following: "Most merciful God, not my will, but yours, be done." I repeat that phrase often during my prayers. Sometimes I will do so for tens of times just to quiet my mind and make it open to hearing from my Creator.

Use the following pattern in all your prayers and you will see them answered: Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. See the links below for more information. (acronym: ACTS)

God answers prayers in his own time, so don't question why no doors have opened for you yet. The right job will come along when the time is right. You ask the what if's & you shouldn't do that. This is where your true faith comes in. Yes, God wants you to find a job but the right opportunity hasn't presented itself yet. Continue to pray daily & he will answer your prayers. In the meantime, continue to look & send out resumes, as God helps those who help themselves, as you well know. Good luck!

Sorry for your trouble. You know that God works in ways which can confuse us. Your already doing what God would have you do. You are being a good person and reflecting spirituality. God grants you the ability to take care of your own things. Instead of praying for a job, try praying for acceptance. When ever I pray for "STUFF" like cars, jobs, houses, and that kind of thing, I am always disappointed. When I pray about how to FEEL, and SEE the world, I do better. I would like to know what you do, and what "DOOR" is suppose to open, as I could deal with that better then the fact that you feel God is DENYING you something.

I know this isn't the kind of answer you're asking for, but I have some practical advice.

One of the best job-searching resources I ever saw was a book called Knock 'Em Dead. It goes through strategies you can use to make sure people see and respond to your resume, as well as some hints on how to think about interview questions. It helped me a lot, and I think it might help you focus your strategy a little.

All the best.

I understand your concerns and it can be troubling and frustrating. Something to look at is what it is that God is trying to teach me with this big struggle and trial I am experiencing? IS there some good or positive thing I can learn from all of this frustration? Perhaps there is. I wonder if you are learning the ins and outs of job interviewing. I also wonder, if in the very least, you are gaining empathy and understanding of what it is like to want a job and not be able to get one.

How or what would God want you to learn from this, is a good introspective question to ask oneself. Do what you can with the situation and perhaps these trials will make you a stronger person when its done.

We have to thank God everything that meet our needs, because he is not at our service, we should be at his. Heaven will be his kingdom, where all our needs will be fully pleased with plenty life.
But In this world, you can become a volunteer in a poor country in Africa and get kidnaped and killed.
Unemployment is a huge problem in this world. Look at the Lord for relief, strength and wise to keep going and make the best steps to find and keep a good job, where I know you will be soon.

I know its about a decade later, but I wonder if it ever worked out for you? Did God come through for you and if so, how did it all play out? I m in this season right now, been searching for almost 3-4 years now too and still nothing after all the praying, fasting, building and stretching of faith. Its very difficult.
