Please, please, please, don't use turpentine or paint thinnner to remove the paint..

Never use gasoline, kerosene, turpentine, or organic solvents on your pet. These products can severely burn your pet's skin and cause toxicities.

Paint is best removed by letting it harden and then clipping off the affected areas. Avon's Skin So Soft may soften some oil-based paints, which can then be removed.

I found an answer to a simlar qustion when someone else's dog managed to get paint on himself. I hope it helps.

Good luck :-)

For waterbased paint, use lukewarm soapy water with a soft brush.

For solventbased paint, pure alcohol on a cotton swab to dissolve paint. Don't use near his face. Wash dog afterwards.

By the way next time, do not place opened paint tin on the floor or where the dog can get at it. The removal process is quite traumatic to the dog and you

cut the painted part off. Or IF the dogs hair is LONG hold the hair away from the dogs body and rub a paint thinner or acetone but if you get it on the dog wash it off quickly. But don't do that if the hair is short cuz it could have a bad reaction to the acetone.

As a groomer.....id try a good wash 1st, if that doesnt work, can you clip the piece of hair out???,.... use a surgical spirit on a piece of cotton wool, no other spirits, be dangerous, then wash, also you could put olive oil on the coat or butter, work it in and wash off. Depends also where the paint is, if it is on head or groin, dont use spirit.

1. Use a little baby oil or vaseline to soak. Then scrape paint off by grasping & pulling between your fingernails
2. If that doesn't work, you can always clip off the worst parts

If it's water-based paint, it should wash off with soap and water.

If oil-based you need paint thinner or turpentine or mineral spirits. Then wash this off the dog with soap and water.

DO NOT use these around the dog's face, however.
