What was your first dance?

My fiancee and I are trying to think of one, we dont want a very common dance and dont want it to be overly soppy.

We were going to use "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green, but the DJ screwed up (don't get me started) so we used "The Rest of My Life" by Unwritten Law.

I must say my favorite "first dance" scene in a movie/TV show on "Everybody Loves Raymond" where Robert and Amy stand in a very formal position before the music starts and then it plays the remix of "A Little Less Conversation" (originally by Elvis) and start dancing all crazy.

Oh I love these questions!!! My first dance was 'can you feel the love tonight' by Elton John (from the lion king). Was a perfect way to start a rather mad dancing evening! Other songs of significance we had were:

Now we are free - from Gladator, I walked into it and had everyone in floods (inc myself and hubby!)
When you say nothing at all - Ronan Keating (while we signed the reg)
All You Need Is LOve - Version from love Actually (Again, while we signed the reg)
Walked out to Somewhere Over The Rainbow sung by Israel Kamakiwole (From 50 first dates andf the Lynx ad) - wery cool Hawaiin version

Oh and 'She' by Elvis Costello, from Paul to me (as a request) because I love it

Hope Ive helped. Have fun choosing!xx

I don't know how common it is, but I think "If I ain't got you" is a great first dance song that isn't overly sloppy. There's a duet version with both Alicia Keys and Usher -- very sweet.

My fiance' and I are dancing to "Biggest Part of Me" by Ambrosia.

In the beginning of our relationship, I heard this song while working one day. It made me instantly think of him. Everytime I hear that song, no matter what mood I am in, it brings a smile to my face.

We are also going to dance to "Perfect Partner" cause we're big Jimmy Buffett fans.

ours was "elton john, your song" it had a meaning for us, try and pick a song that means a lot to you both, my friend had this problem as most of their fave tunes were dance numbers, so they had "if you love me" by charles aznivor, this was ace and really nice lyrics, not to soppy or too slow and really touching.

At my wedding we didnt dance. Only b/c we married in a baptist church and it isnt acceptable. But I would have danced with my daddy first if it was allowed.I would have danced to the song "Butterfly Kisses " by Bob Carlisle.
Its a christian song and talks about how the daddy has watched his daughter grow up from a little girl and how he doesnt want to" give her away"..It makes me cry everytime I hear it b/c I know thats how my daddy felt the day I got married. But the song I would have danced to with my hubby would have been, " Its Your Love" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill

Our first dance was to "Nobody Else" from Los Lonely Boys... I have never heard of anyone having that song which is one of the many reason why we picked it...

Our first dance was "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife" by Dean Martin. It was his parents' first dance as well, and when I heard it I knew instantly it was the perfect song.
