Romantics admired many things in their paintings. They celebrated the wonder of nature through its beauty and power. They also were intrigued by emotions and psychological workings of people (many artists would visit insane asylums for inspiration). This ties in with another fascination of Romantic pieces: mysterious and unexplained phenomenon. Many of their paintings have historical themes, or are concerned in participating in current events.
