I would like to think that people log onto "Yahoo answers" in hopes in finding answers to their own questions and maybe answer afew as well.

"Why is it" that when I (as well as others I have noticed) I ask a question MOST not all, but MOST of the reponses that I get are HATEFUL and IGNORANT? Sometimes not even on topic.
I know that there are some that log on and ask questions to boast about their knowledge or whatever but..... I just don't get it. Are we MOSTLY adults here? Well, it doesnt look like it.
Half the time it's from people who feel threatened and don't know how to make a stand in what it is they believe in. Or are unwilling to see a differant point of view.
Not allways, I get some really good answers here.
Maybe Yahoo should have (just an idea here...) Q.P.P. -Question Police Patrols and send messages to those who are acting "hateful".
It just gets ridiculious sometimes.
What say you???

I say who cares what a couple idiots do- just ignore em and realize that if we get rid of em they'll just come back with even more nasty comments eventually. If you don't give them an audience maybe they'll just give up

We all have different reasons for being on here. Sometimes the questions asked has been asked to the point of ridiculousness and deserves a ridiculous answer. But, in their defense, yahoo doesn't exactly make it easy to check for similar previous questions. I just want to have fun, and if I cross a line I expect to be reported and my answer deleted. This site is very ridiculous, that's why I've given up on giving serious answers unless the question posed is something I truly care about. Just have fun with it. If you do, you will most likely grow to appreciate that very ridiculousness that so irked you in the first place.

You, my friend, are not the first to ask this question.

If you are a bit curious, search for "ignorant answers, or bad responses, responses" just to see how may pop up.

Anyway, some are actually enjoying the learning/teaching interaction.

others is seams just want to respond with a funny quip or repartee because they really don't know the answer anyway.

however, which I am sure of the ones you speak of are definitely cruel when they answer and for that I believe they soon get deleted out of the site.

I know of one character (who I actually liked because he brought up some hot issues) was very racial and hard on ethics. His views were out of the box and finally was booted off.

don't worry all bad things have an ending too.

enjoy, most are very sweet and enjoyable as well as very informative. I started using this site just for the entertainment, now I actually can't wait to enter cause I want to know more.

Too many questions. Most of the answers I see here could be answered with a bit of Yahooing. I see this more as a place to make statements and try to prove others wrong. There are of course some good questions and answers, but they too include the odd answers.

Yeah - that's what Yahoo Answers needs - police patrols! (Note to the dull: this is sarcasm.)

I try to make my answers interesting and informative, to approach questions from a novel POV, to keep on point, and to avoid talking out of my . But I frequently - usually - disagree with the majority, and I don't hedge. So a lot of people have problems with my responses. And that's good! Thumbs down means you read me! Food for thought.

Incidentally, a lot depends on your critieria for determining what qualifies as "HATEFUL and IGNORANT." I suppose a lot of people would consider it hateful and ignorant to suggest that the earth may be more than 6,000 years old. One thing I've learned in my years on the planet is that in many cases, it's simply not possible to find common ground for intellectual discussion between certain types of mind.

I think, it's the internet, and you won't be able to police it without eventually making it a site where they charge you money.
We pretty much just have to put up with the ignorant answers/questions.
If it's annoying, people should start using the "thumbs down" more often. If it's horribly offensive, report them.
Other than that, I hope it remains a place where people can really voice their opinions without being overly screened.

i don't want to see QPP on here, that would completely contradict the point of this forum.
i agree that some people are just idiots and/or spew hatred (of all faiths)
when you ask a question, be prepared for backlash, but ignore it. just take what you can from the "real" answers.
if they are really hateful you can report them, but don't report just because you don't agree with them and they are being slightly abrasive. always remember that things get taken out of text when written down, since you can't see body language or facial expressions

Unfortunately many people do not see yahoo Answers as a ligitmate means of having serious questions obtain serious answers. Good luck to you in future questions.

I agree. But, at times I find myself being hateful in my answers when I think the asker is either being a smartass or so ridiculously ignorant I become frustrated. To all I have maligned and insulted, I humbly apologize.

It takes all kinds.
People are here for different reasons.
I answer serious questions with research and provide a source.
Questions that want an opinion get my opinion.
Sarcastic or silly questions get sarcastic or silly answers.
