Why can't Punishment in Hell fit the sin, and be for a set period of time?

As for eternal punishment for finite life of sin, the answer is that our sin bears an eternal consequence because it is ultimately against an eternal God. When King David committed the sins of adultery and murder he stated, Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight (Psalm 51:4). David had sinned against Bathsheba and Uriah, how could David claim to have only sinned against God? David understood that all sin is ultimately against God. God is an eternal and infinite Being. As a result, all sin is worthy of an eternal punishment.

An earthly example of this would be comparing attacking your neighbor and attacking the President of the United States. Yes, both are crimes, but attacking the President would result in far greater consequences. How much more does sin against a holy and infinite God warrant a terrible consequence?

The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. Without that life one cannot live eternally in hell or any place else. Scripture says that hell was created for the devil and his angels, not for mankind.

God's punishments will fit the sin; and without Christ we are judged by what comes out of our own mouth. Do an internal replay of your life to now. What do you see, against what you know in your heart to be right?

Like prison... Yeah, I don't know. That's another big problem I have with Christianity. I can't think of anything that warrants burning for -eternity-. Well maybe a few things. But certainly not most things that people are supposedly sent to hell for.

the only sin you are truly going to hell for would be for the rejection of Jesus Christ as the son of God into your life. For that you will pay the price. Any other sin you can be forgiven for if you accept him into your heart. but once you turn your back on him figuratively speaking , he will have no more use for you. Think long and hard about what you believe.

The wages of sin is death, not eternal torment in hell. This false doctrine which is taught by most churches has it's basis in the Pagan belief of the immortal soul. The bible teaches us that man is mortal and only those that find salvation through Jesus Christ will recieve immortality.

I think maybe because God thinks if we're going to listen to the devil, then we may as well go and live with him. He gives us all the chances we want to repent and do what's right in his eyes in order to be welcome in his home. He even leaves it up to us to decide what we want in our lives. Maybe we encounter situations we wouldn't have placed ourselves in knowingly, but we use those reference points to make informed choices should something similar arise in the future. Punishment does fit the sin, it's black and white, no gray. People who don't want to accept Jesus have the other choice, Satan. Jesus said "let him without sin cast the first stone", he knows we're not perfect, he knows we can be tempted, God knows this too, that's why he sent his son, so we'd still have a chance to join him in the New Jerusalem, He even gave us the book of Revelation to show us that he didn't create us just for the heck of it. Your belief in Hell tells me that you believe God exists, since you believe he exists, can you also believe his word is truth? He's going to war with the Devil in heaven, and he needs "backup!!" That would be Us!

First off Hell, technically is a hole in the ground.

The Lake of Fire is probably, what you're talking about.

This is what my theory is. Man was created mortal, so when you throw one in the fire, he will just die, cease to exist. That still is an eternal punishment, yet not eternal torment. Etenal torment is what immotals face, like the 1/3 of angels, that Ha-Shatan enticed to reject Eloi Elyon's(Supreme Being) way.

I'm thinking Father Elohim, who says He is love, created us mortal so that we can cease to exist, rather than suffer eternal torment.

It's always seemed unjust to me for humans to be sentenced to hell or heaven for an eternity based on a mere 70 odd years of life. How is that just?

I don't believe hell is for eternity, because after Jesus was crucified he rose from the dead went into hell and preached to the souls there. Why preach if it was not going to help them?. And Jesus stayed there three days preaching makes you think.

yeah. . and if jesus was supposed to pay the price for our sins. . why isn't that price the same for him as it is for us.

Jesus should be in hell for eternity

Big whoop. . he dies KNOWING he would be out in 3 days.
Heck. . I'll go to prison for 3 days to get someone off death row. Or more like everyone that is on death row or ever will be.
