Hey there,
Prozac (or Fluoxetine) is a very commonly prescribed drug. It is the 29th most commonly prescribed drug in the United States, and is in a class of drugs (Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors) which have 4 drugs in the top 40 most prescribed!. As far as a percentage of people, there's little way to actually know; but if you're concerned - just know that it is an extremely common drug.

There is a book called “Prozac and the New Antidepressants.” In it is says:
When the original edition of Prozac and the New Antidepressants was published just three years ago, more than eleven million people were taking Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, and the other "new antidepressants"-amid a swirling national debate about their effectiveness, their dangers, and their societal implications. Today the number is estimated to have almost doubled, and the number of new drugs being used to treat depression has also increased significantly.
Prozac is the most controversial drug out there though. It has been shown to make people homicidal and suicidal. It causes this in more people than any other drug. There are people who take this without problems though, but that doesn’t mean it is safe.
I used to take Prozac, but had to stop because it made me manic, and the side effects were horrible. There are many new medications that people are on. I am bipolar and I know that approximately 2% of the world are truly bipolar. These people are all on some kind of med, whether it is Prozac or something else. That is a pretty big number.
All I know is that I am thankful for my Cymbalta, Effexor XR, and Lamictal. I had become a horrid beoch before I started taking them. I have become a much more pleasant person to be around since I started taking them.
