If you mean getting a new policy each month the cost is such that a carrier will likely not take you on.

If you mean can you get insurance on an annual basis with payments stretched out over 9 or 10 months the answer is generally yes. Contact an insurance broker and unless you have a really bad driving record the matter should be pretty straightforward.

You WILL end up paying more for that insurance tho - either in the form of an 'assessment' or service charge or something similiar, but you WILL pay more.

Yeah no problem. Most insurance I know, it's not a 1-year commitment like a cell phone or lease. The whole "1 year" or "6 month" thing is just a formality. It's REALLY charged day by day. But because they presume you're going to have it the whole year, they set up payment plans accordingly.

You can cancel it at any time, they will charge you for the number of days you actually used, and refund the rest.

So you get a 1 year policy and pay 3 months on it in advance. 31 days later you call up the agent and cancel. They charge you for 31 days worth of insurance and you get about 2/3 of your payment back as a refund. No big deal.

Read the actual policy of course just to make sure, or ask the agent. "What if I move to NYC in a month?" (nobody drives in Manhattan.)

You can get the ones for 6 months or whatever, but if you are paying it month by month instead of every 6 months, you can drop it whenever you want. Good Luck
