I have a dog and have had her for about 7 years and I haven't taken her to the vet, only when we first got her. I was too young and my Auntie/Uncle (i live with them) wouldnt bring her. Now that I'm older and can afford to pay the bills and take her for a long over-due check up, will I be in any sort of trouble? She has no physical issues, but will I get in trouble for not being able to take her?
Also I have another dog with eye problems (Very common for his breed) his Eye Lashes go in his eye. When he was younger we brought him to the vet but I don't know what happened. If I bring him, and they find out it's been like that for about 3 years will I get in trouble?
My Auntie/Uncle wouldn't take them and I couldn't afford too, now that I can I am taking them. So any sort of trouble happening on my part?

My dogs have the rabees shots. When we first got them, they got all those shots. Atleast, that's what my Auntie/Uncle been telling me.

No, of course you won't get in trouble, what could they do sou you LOL I work as a vet and we have cases like that. All we do is tell them that a good responsible owner should bring there dog yearly, to keep it healthy. Taking your dog to the vet is the best for it. because you get treatment to keep it healthy. Remember love your dog with all your heart and do whats best for it. I hope this was useful. It is also a lawa to keep it on yearly shot's but I don't think there going to get extreamly mad

No, I don't think you will. However, you will undoubtedly have to explain to the vet what you explained here.
When you are choosing a vet, try to find one who has a reputation for not only competence, but KINDNESS. He/she will be more understanding and careful to see that you don't waste a penny on anything unnecessary. Get advice on what you can do, such as the eyelash problem.
Bear in mind that there are going to be required shots and preventatives like heartworm, so you are talking a good sum of money. Perhaps they would let you pay what you have and give you a realistic weekly payment plan from there. Just make sure you keep the payments up, because the next time you need a vit, it might be an emergency.
I hope they are already spayed and altered...Best of luck and don't be afraid of being in trouble for past neglect at the hands of adults.
EDIT: The first rabies shots were probably only good for a year, maybe three, but certainly not seven :-(, sorry to say.

No, your vet won't report you (it's bad business), in all likelihood, but you might get a lecture. You'll probably need rabies shots and some immunizations.
It's the rabies that would probably bring the most trouble, but that would be from local or state authorities if they caught wind. Depends on local laws.
Kudos to you for stepping up and doing the right thing now that you can take responsibility yourself.
I hope your dogs are well, and I encourage you to make these checkups a regular thing.

No. Legally, there is nothing they can do. Even if there were, punishing people for not bringing their pets in is counter-productive anyway. If everyone were afraid of getting in trouble because they missed a vet visit, pets would never get caught up on vet care!
The only shot the law requires is rabies. Depending on your state and local laws, rabies is *required* every 1,2, or 3 years. Not getting your dog's rabies shot for 7 years isn't good, but you won't get a fine or other legal penalty by getting one now.
To repeat an earlier comment, kudos to you for getting your pets caught up on their vet care!

No, you won't get in trouble. And when you tell the Vet your story, I'm sure they will be very empathetic.
You will probably have a lot to do though, your dogs need their teeth cleaned and booster shots and a full work up might be a good idea....
I think it's important that we encourage people to be aware of such expenses before they adopt a dog, so hopefully you can help spread this message.

THIS IS A TOUGH ONE FOR ME, WHEN I WAS YOUNG PEOPLE DIDN'T HAVE A VET TO TAKE AN ANIMAL TO. SEEMS THEY WERE HEALTHIER THEN ALSO. I THINK AS LONG AS THEY HAVEN'T BEEN OUTSIDE THEY CAN'T GET WORMS, OR ANY OTHER DISEASES. I WOULD HOWEVER GET THIS ONE A CHECK UP. EVEN PEOPLE NEED ONE EVERY YEAR, IT'S JUST SAFER TO BE SAFE.............
NO YOU WANT GET INTO TROUBLE, IT WASN'T YOUR FAULT, YOU WERE A MINOR. NOW YOUR OLDER, AND DOING THE RIGHT THING. THERE ARE NO LAWS THAT CONSTITUTE THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR ANIMAL TO THE VETS. You won't get into trouble. It is very important to get you pet caught up on all the necessities. You mentioned your dog received rabies shots a long time ago. However, rabies shots need to be given every year, unless your vet gives a 3-year vacine. Also, heartguard and flea medicine needs to be given every month, especially in warmer climate. Having a pet is expensive. I know, I have four rescued dogs of my own. However, you are all your pet has and therefore, his/her health is in your hands. You won't get into any trouble. It is a great thing that you can take proper care of your pet & an even greater that you truly want to.

dogs need their shots every year. so your dogs will need rabies shots again some times they can get the shots that last for three years, but they need other shots too. they also need flea and tick medication and you might need to have their teeth looked at, dogs need regular dental work too. just tell the vet what you have said here and no one is going to yell at you You are making the right decision to take your dog in. You do know I hope that the dog with the ingrown eyelashes will need surgery and if you don't do the surgery they will turn you in to the animal shelter, it is cruel to let this go on any longer, How much pain that dog has been in is amazing. I hope you stick to your story about taking your dogs in to the vet.

I think that very few people ask questions here then actually follow up with a proper vet visit. I think that people that come here for health issues, obviously are trying to get out of spending the money and doing the right thing... The vet should be your first thought when your pet has problems.. not running to YA and looking for an easy / cheap way out.

You won't get in trouble for the dog not being to the vet in so many years. It is good that you are willing to take him now that you can afford it.
Many parents choose not to take their own children to the doctor. It's no big deal.
